Is anyone else moved to tears by Spocks crying in The Naked Time?

It seemed a little odd, kinda over the top, with his fast gasping and lack of tears... but I thought maybe that's how Vulcans cry XD

No I didn’t cry.....but I was impressed that Nimoy and director Marc Daniels had only one chance to nail the shot because the prescribed shut down time for filming around 6 PM didn’t allow a second take.

A Vulcan still trying to suppress his emotions and human ones at that and when a water based virus infected him it gave similar symptoms as alcohol which may be why McCoy was so worried about Spock drinking in Requiem For Methuselah in Season Three! ;)

Many women were certainly moved at the time, to say the least.

I think the shorter bit when the first jag hits him is more painful to watch. Maybe it's boosted by the music.

Yeah, that's what this scene is to me. There are so many scenes in Star Trek that are moving emotionally but, for me, this isn't one of them unless "Damn, good job! Way to nail that in one take!" counts as moving. :)

I think it's a good performance, but there are more powerful or moving moments in other episodes.

That ep would be a lot more effective if we already knew the characters well rather then serving as a 'get to know our heroes'

I also want to reiterate that:

1) Scotty gets drunk so often he's immune to being Space Shitfaced

2) Riker's one of those people who you can't tell is drunk. (Yes im referring to the TNG ep)

I like Nimoy and all, but for me the most enduring thing of brilliance in this episode is the Alexander Courage score. I mean, it's a good episode, very much a showcase for the actors, but I think Courage's music lofted the whole thing to a higher emotional level.

Maybe it could have worked with no music score, like Fail Safe (1964), but a weak or uninspired score would have done more harm than good.

I only cry when Walter Koenig tries to speak with a Russian accent. :wah:

It's funny how people hate his accent, i saw in an interview he gave to anthony pascale a few years ago where he said he was doing an imitation of his father, particularly when they were at the dinner table when his dad said "pass the wegtables". his father must have had a odd Russian accent himself.

Too early on. Spock weeping in "Plato's Stepchildren" had me feeling concern for his survival.

Of course, Tasha's eulogy did more for me regardless of the fact that her making it would assuming she'd re-do it if any of the crew ended up getting killed before her... But do I want to leak saline solution every episode? No... keep it for special moments.
