The script where the Borg kids leave the ship did mention the baby as being beamed down, too, but it had been so long since the baby was even mentioned onscreen that they dropped the scene as being an unnecessary complication for casual viewers.

I'm neither intending, nor attempting to come off as 'elitist', my friends, although I DO seem to get that reaction quite a lot. I am merely hoping to cut through some of the crap I've encountered on MANY other Trek boards.

Well, go back and re-read your initial post, imagining yourself as a longtime regular. As I suggested before, sending PMs to posters, who seem to be kindred spirits, over your first few weeks of scanning the threads you like, is a good way to build a network of like-minded BBS buddies.

OP what I found initially offputting about your post was that you ask if anyone on this board is posting intellectual posts as opposed to just who is hot posts.. but a cursory glance at the forums here should show you that this bbs is broad and every possible discussion happens here. I'm sure you will find plenty of good threads on this board.

Sure those things are here just as they are everywhere online and in the real world. And that's where some of that thick skin comes in handy. You have to be able to overlook a lot of that because when you look around you will find the meaningful discussions.

Please don't misunderstand - I'm not trying to be sarcastic or cheeky but I really would be interested in elaboration. I always enjoy a good discussion of human nature anyway so, if you're game, I'd love to broaden my horizons by reading and seriously considering whatever you might have to say on the topic. And if it can be done using Star Trek or Trek bulletin boards as a frame of reference, so much the better.

I am searching. Actually, I spend way too much time on my quest--several hours each day on the various Trek sites; every spare moment usually--but I'm guessing the end is nearing. You see, I am methodically traipsing across the planet, via the dubious 'miracle' of the internet, looking for another being, or beings, with an education and background similar to mine, who sees more significance in the magnificent richness and texture of the epic 45 year Star Trek Saga than merely, "Which captain do you think has the nicest ass?", or, "What Trek 'hottie' has the best rack?", or, "Kirk and Spock are gay lovers--It's canon...live with it!"

If you haven't already stopped reading this, preferring instead to peruse the latest postings of scantily clad 'convention babes' on 'you-know-what space', then you're way ahead of the pack. But be forewarned! If you ever dare to pose the simple question, "Isn't there any more to it for you than this?", to the unwashed masses, they will immediately descend upon you like demented and ravenous rabid wolves, attacking everything from your credentials to your very masculinity, and all the while screeching maniacally, "You're 'dissing' US, and need to be taken down a peg or two!" Ah, mob rule...what an ingenious way to run a society!

Anybody still with me? There are any number of really well thought out topics on this site, to several of which, I have given my heartfelt response. I'm still waiting to hear back from some first class Trek minds...is anybody out there?

Please, kindly disregard any "official credentials" which might be inferred from my humble scribblings...believe me, I do! Ultimately, I just wanna talk about my favorite thing in the world--Star Trek. And, yes; those big bosomed, leggy girls in their TOS micro mini's do STILL rock the universe.

The tone of your original post was not merely elitist but quite frankly incredibly snobby. Furthermore it was needlessly provocative. Attempting to deflect criticism by then claiming that your intentions were different from the results of your actions is a form of illogic that is most often seen in bullies. The kind who make insulting comments and then when called on it proclaim how they were "only kidding".

If this has been your posting style in other venues then I have no doubt that you have been met with a great deal of hostility.

Or to put it more succinctly I shall quote my grandfather. "If you don't want the hornets to swarm, don't throw rocks at their damn nest."

Of course, as a general rule of thumb, it's not wise to start out by stirring up trouble in Internet BBS posts. That's certainly frowned upon by users who've been there a long time and by the mods. So, as a "new guy" myself, I'll throw this opinion out there once and then leave it alone.

I didn't find his initial post to be snobby or elitist at all. Is it a tad wordy? Sure - but I can appreciate that as I sometimes tend to overdo it when I write too. But what I got out of it is basically - "I'm a die hard Trek fan who appreciates the deeper meaning in Trek and I wanna' talk about it with like minded folks without being ridiculed like I've been on other boards". Is that really elitist? Is it snobby?

When I dared to suggest (either upthread here or in another thread - I can't recall) that, in my experience, name-calling/labeling is generally a tactic used when we feel threatened, another user immediately "put me in my place" by citing how limited my experience must be (how he can possibly know about my experiences one way or the other is beyond me).

Sadly, with two or three exceptions, it would seem everything this guy was hoping to avoid here ended up happening to him anyway. Could he have forestalled that by writing his posts differently? Perhaps. Should he have had to? I happen to think not.

If the OP wishes to discuss a certain subject there's nothing stopping the OP from starting a new thread. Expecting any discussion to go entirely his way, however, is not a sign of openness and maturity. Sure, some nasty sniping happens on this board, but a lot of deep, respectful, and fun discussions take place as well. Rather than rushing in with what appear to me to be elitist and, frankly, self-obsorbed expectations the OP should sit back, have some fun reading through the archives (which are filled with brilliant debates and discussions) and lurk, thereby getting to know the ethos of the board better before making what may be considered rash and unfair judgements.

If the group/board/sandbox doesn't suit you, move on quietly and find one that does.
