Iron Man out on DVD!

Here are two great clips I thought I'd share...

This first one is the intro for the 1995 animated series. It features Tony Stark suiting up. I also love the theme song.

This second one features Tony suiting up in the movie, and again it's accompanied by some nice music.

Ah, remember when Tony used to keep his armor in hiis briefcase and change in backroom somewhere?

I remember when he was thrown out of a plane with only his briefcase and had to change while in free fall. Too bad we probably won't see that in a movie.

Ahhh that cartoon... Tony's mullet was soooooo awful.

I loved the music for the film's suit-up, it was very appropriate. Made me wanna start a mosh pit ;)

I want to go grab that big huge gift set from Best Buy but I gotta wait on another paycheck. I really want that helmet/bustn*hopes it won't sell out*

As of 10:15 this morning my local Blockbuster was rented out of it. They opened at 10:00.

 - not at all surprising!

I just got back from picking up my copy of the "Ultimate 2-Disc Edition" at Target. Right now, I'm having to exercise to keep from taking the afternoon off ...........

I actually never got around to seeing Iron Man in theaters despite my desire to. Won't have the chance to pick up the Bluray release until this weekend but I'm looking forward to it!

Reminds me, they show the 1994 Fantastic Four cartoon on Toon Disney, and the first season opening theme song is amongst the all-time worst.

One line is "Galactus is looking hungry..."

What I saw of the Iron Man toon is that every villain is connected to the Mandarin, which is the laziest damn writing.

Wow, your Blockbuster sucks, I went at 3PM and rented one of the dozens of copies. Though they were going fast I was one of three people renting it just in the time it took to grab it and check out.

Mine was nearly empty of Doomsday though, the crazy chick that works there is always recommending it to everyone, fun flick though.

I didn't see this at the theater, pretty awesome film, I didn't expect Downey to be so good, I wasn't expecting the humor at all, no wonder it was successful.

Yeah, and the cartoon only ran for two seasons. Also dumb: making the Mandarin a green lizard creature???

Hey did anyone get the loot from Best Buy? I saw where they were giving away shirts and poster tubes. I WILL DO NEARLY ILLEGAL THINGS FOR ONE OF THOSE POSTER TUBES>>>

I got the single disk dvd. My vanilla visa card my cousin gave me this summer for graduating college had 23.74 left. So I didn't have enough for the ultimate and I didn't want to single disk with the Iron man cartoon attached. It was also on sale for $14.97 :)

There was actually a line of people there. The hazards of living in a college town.

DVD picture quality

I got my copy of Iron Man 2-disc DVD yesterday late afternoon via UPS, which was kind of a shock, and I watched it before I went to bed.

First of all, my A/V specs... 42" 1080p Sharp LC-42D72U AQUOS, 1080p up-converting Oppo DV-981HD player.

The player usually does a good job at up-converting regular DVDs to near HD quality at a modest viewing distance. In fact, some 16:9 TV shows, such as Prison Break, Terminator, and Stargate look practically HD. But with this Iron Man disc, the picture quality was quite mediocre. Detail was very muddy, well, not muddy, just not very clear and crisp. And shadow detail was non-existant. Of course most of the film took place at night or in dark areas, including Tony's own workshop. So I think the film producers blew it by having most of the film take place in the dark. Why create this movie about an awesome suit of armor and hide it in the dark? It's almost as bad as AvP2.

Re: DVD picture quality

I watched the blu-ray last night on a ps3 and the graphics were sharp and kickass.

Finally picked up the 2 disc dvd. Got to say the slip cover and package art is really awesome. :techman:

Now to rewatch the movie...

I was hoping to get the helmet case, but I was too damn lazy to get out of bed early. So I didn't make it to the store til after 6PM.

I knew it was a long shot, but I went to Target anyway. It was quite literally picked clean. There were only two single disk copies left on the bare rack.
Fortunately theres was a mall across the street with an FYE. God bless'em they still had plenty of their really nice steelbooks left, so thats what I brought home (along with a couple of $7 Godzilla flix and an ALIEN figure. Whoo!)

Great movie, great extras! Impressive deleted scenes, and probably one of the better 'making of' docs ever. And I even found out more about the comicbook than I'll ever want to know.

The deleted scenes were interesting but I think most were cut for good reason. They shouldn't have cut the Rhodey scenes though. Hope Terrence Howard gets more to do in Iron Man 2.

My favorite scenes were Rhodey talking with the General about why he was still searching after three months, Rhodey helping out during the final fight, the alternate ending with Stane, and Tony setting himself up with three babes for a "fourway".

I also wish Terrence had more screen time.

Loved the cut scenes--the one with Stane's death taking longer was very hard to watch. The emotional impact! Poor Tony, trained after all those years. DAMN YOU OBADIAH BAD PSEUDO-FATHER FIGURE!

I also never get sick of seeing Tony's sweet casa.

I just saw the two hour "I Am Ironman" documentary and it was really informative. RDJ seems like a cool guy to hang around with. The "Wildly Popular Iron Man Trailer Being Made into Movie" skit was pretty funny.

No Mandarin complaining allowed in this topic btw. :p

He's also a great source for some good blow!
