Guessing

- its a throw away armor like the mark five. Maybe a nod to the comics

-the armor is for an event. Possibly July 4th

I have yet to see The Avengers, but that looks very much like the Mark VII armor from that film. Perhaps Tony is getting a bit more mileage out of that suit before donning a Mark VIII, which in turn gets trashed prior to the introduction of an Extremis-derived edition?

Mark

Well, according to SuperHeroHype it's

Eric Savin/Coldblood under the armor.

Iron Man villain details. The more sensitive of you may consider it spoiler-ish.
The only assumption by Lation Reveiw that I'd argue against is...
No way do I see Mandarin rolling into Avengers 2 given what we know of Thanos at this point. The only reason I'd buy that is IF they use the actual origin of the TEN RINGS as alien tech thus tying into the Infinity Gems/Gauntlet. Meaning Thanos would partner with Mandarin. With cosmic elements in play they could go that route. I recall the idea of using the original rings origin was shot down by many as implausible cause the IM world was "real world" based. Since then and the expansion of the MCU I don't think alien tech is an issue any longer.

Should IM 3 not use the rings as alien tech then I call unlikely Mandarin is not going to have a major role in the film and saved for rolling over to Avengers 2.

Or they may save him for Iron Man 4. This one will probably be Downey's last Iron Man film and if the Tony Stark role is recast they can use the villain to keep a bit of continuity and help ease the audience into the next one.

I like the patriot armor. I'd love to see a cameo from Steve Rogers and have him comment on the red, white, and blue.

That's the problem, the color blocking is identical to Cap's.

Look at the design Granov actually did for Iron Patriot. It's the same colors, sure, but the arrangement of colors and the pattern communicates that it isn't Cap in a suit, but it is someone (presumably) operating under the same patriotic motif. This is character design 101, and it's especially important when you have so many characters that exsist in the same universe, especially when they share the screen or panel.

Maybe Tony Stark was inspired by Captain America after the events of The Avengers.

I could accept that explanation...except the way the colors are arranged makes me think of a mid-level fan-made costume, where the general build of the parts is good, but the paint and colors are atrocious (Note: That's not a crit on fan-suits, it's the fact that it's very hard to get the right sort of metallic, bright glossy look of the props without having a lot of experience in auto paint.)

And WTF is up with those gauntlets? Those look like they're made by Nerf by the way theyre painted.

Norman is going to be pissed :) That's pretty cool they're using the Iron Patriot armor in some fashion though. I wonder if they'll have Pepper become Rescue at the end of the movie?

Don't see why China would be mad that a character was named Mandarin. That's not a racial thing. Mandarins in China were a scholarly class of government officials, not an ethnicity.
