Involved in Trek

Oh, sure - it's still really funny. I think more than anything his 5th grader response was the most amusing part of it, though - the part where he challenged us to put our girlfirends up and that blow up dolls don't count... Priceless.

I've got a question: how do the various posters who are the real Trek people actually prove it?

I mean someone could set up their account under the name "Chris Pine" in an effort to get a lot of attention.

Do they contact the mods or something and then establish their credentials?

Standard proceedure is apparently:

  • Famous person joins BBS.
  • EMH bans them.
  • Famous person offers proof.
  • EMH is never allowed to forget!!!

It is usually by word of mouth. Someone here knows the person in question and invited them to join. Other times it is fairly obvious. But the staff can do several things behind the curtain to make sure new people are who they say they are.

^ How did Shat prove that it was in fact him? As opposed to some schmuck pretending to be him (which would be easy)?

His rank below his user name said Actor. This was in the days before they allowed premium members to make up a title for themselves, back then you had to have the site's staff make one up for you. And I'm pretty sure they would do such a thing for a guy calling himself William Shatner unless he provided definitive proof that it was him.

Before my time, but a user named Morpheus gave away serious spoilers in the Enterprise forum. Some have suggested that it was Jolene Blalock.

I keep hearing that Shatner posted here once, but I don't believe it....

It's true, he was here in January 2002.

What did he say?

I'm sure there are and have been other Trek-related people buzzing around the site, posting anonymously.

I remember Morpheus, though I thought it was confirmed he was male. I think there was another poster with inside info about Enterprise that everything thought was Jolene Blalock. Though I think the reasoning behind it was this poster referred to TATV as "Apalling" which was what Blalock made waves saying in interviews.

As for what Shatner said when he posted, not much. Basically just "Hey all, how's it going. New to the internet. Check out my website."
