Invictus: strange thing

I watched Invictus last night, about the 1995 Rugby World Cup held in South Africa, which had umpteen matches in various stadiums around SA. Not a single vuvuzela anywhere. Not one. What's all that about then?

^Vuvuzelas have only really got popular over the last 20 years, or so I've heard. So they wouldn't have really been used as much back then.

According to the people on TV during the 2010 Football World Cup, vuvuzelas are part of the South African football culture, not the rugby culture, so you wouldn't expect to seem them at rugby fixtures.

So all that guff about "it's our culture" was just guff? I know they were traditionally used by herdsmen to keep in touch but the urban use is a new phenomenon. It would be like Aussies insisting on taking didjeridoos to every match.

^That will never happen. We don't have enough hands, as one is for beer and the other is for a pie/second beer.

It's not played by so many people. The internationals get a big following though. The 6 Nations will be starting in Feb and Scotland will get drubbed again. Not sure what tourneys SA compete in aside from the world cup and test series, though.

^ SA takes part of the Tri-nations, a comp that involves NZ and Australia (similar to your Six Nations but...different). Hopefully in 2012 it will become the Four Nations and Argentina as Argentina has been invited to join.
