Intruder Alert!

Do you have a sliding-glass door?

If so, you really should have a Charlie-bar on it.

Nope. And what in the world is a Charlie-bar?

It's a bar that comes down against the sliding-glass door to prevent from being able to slide open should the lock be unlocked/rendered disabled.

Some people "get by" without having one by placing a broom-stick or something in the track of the door which is less effective.

^ If they really wanted to get in, especially while you were away, they could just hack the glass in with an axe. I'm learning, if someone really wants to get in, it's virtually impossible to stop them, especially if they know something about the field. All you can do is make sure the tools they need to get in amount to more cost than what they will achieve with them... :D

Moral of the story? If you are mega rich and live in a mansion, you are never ever safe. :p This is the only time I'll be thankful I'm not loaded!

Well, real life security is the exact same as computer security- it is impossible to keep yourself completely protected, and your only hope is to make getting into your home/ computer such a big nuisance and hassle that the attackers leave to target an easier mark.

Single greatest picture posted in my time here. Ever.

I live to serve! :D

 Fab! You really do look menacing there... great lighting and everything. :techman:

We tried to find a baseball bat to keep in the house some time ago, but only managed to acquire a hockey stick - not as cool looking, you know?

Yeah, there's just something about a baseball bat held in a menacing way that just really drives home the point. ;) :D

A hockey stick worked fine for Harry Dresden. :D

Glad to hear that you're safer - I had a similar situation a couple of weeks ago. I got home around 8 to find that someone had attempted to break into my apartment and had broken the lock in the doorknob. Fortunately I'm in the habit of locking the deadbolt and so they couldn't get in.

So I went downstairs and got the superintendent, and he got me in (it took him until about 8:30 to get the door open), and replaced the lock by about 9pm.

I got in just in time - this was the night of the Galactica finale, and my boyfriend and I had made plans to cook dinner together and watch it while chatting over the webcam.

^ Sounds like a wonderful way to spend an evening. Glad they were not able to get into you home - I imagine it was a very unsettling experience!
