I agree with you on this one...Voyager's bridge looked like it was caught halfway between the 1701-D bridge and a warship bridge. You could never tell whether it was supposed to look comfortable and inviting or utilitarian and functional. Parts of it were just undeniably cool, like the MSD on the back wall, or the viewscreen, or even the side stations--to its credit, every station on this bridge had an identifiable function that wasn't mere window dressing like the 1701-D bridge side stations were in Generations. Some things however just didn't make sense, like the fact of there being a command bench with the two chairs evenly spaced around the central axis versus having one central command chair like we're accustomed to.
Still, of all the starship bridges we saw post-TOS I think I like this one the best. The fact is, for all its other shortcomings, this one did have the coolest red alert appearance (what can I say, I like dramatic lighting schemes and this one took the cake).
