Internet Explorer vs Fire Fox??

Which is better?
Lately I've been getting booted from the internet and get the message
'The Internet Explorer is not Responding'
Virus checks find nothing. a Co-Worker suggested FireFox.

Any Pros or Cons to it?

I concur -- Internet Explorer was giving me a number of problems, but a few years ago I switched to Firefox and I haven't looked back. I don't think I've had any major issues with it yet.

So, yeah... I heartily recommend Firefox. :bolian:

Of the two, Firefox definitely. Though it's really starting to become a slow bloated fat-ass even without any add-ons. And, I really don't like most of the changes in 3. Luckily, *NIX has a gazillion Mozilla based "lite" browser to choose from.

And I still use Lynx a lot. Console, command-line web browsing FTW!

Firefox is far, far superior to Internet Explorer. It's faster, safer and generally more reliable.
It also works on all platforms: OS X, Linux, Windows, etc.

J.

At this point, it just boils down to personal preference.

I like FF a lot because of all the addons and themes, but lately it's been crashy for me a lot so I've been using chrome more and more.

I run Ubuntu which uses Firefox, so I use it. Not really by choice though.

But to be honest. Firefox ain't all that wonderful though. It does run better on lower powered computers in the plain vanilla format. But if it's loaded down with the "extras", then like all computer programs it needs more power to run.

And the Bookmarks in Firefox really really sux. The silliest part of the program.

But if you run a business, IE is the better choice.

Overall evaluation - Run either one.

Just me talking.....

Yeah, what's up with that - Even MS is going towards smaller!?!??!

It took me two years from the first friend started laughing at me for not using the fox till I got 'round to trying it out -½ an hour later and I was sold: I'll never go back.

The add-ons are -of course- part of this and NoScript is my favourite :bolian:

I use Chrome as it's noticeably more responsive than Firefox and I've no interest in extensions. Chrome often has issues with animated GIFs though, so I keep Firefox around for that.

It sounds like you have another problem though if IE won't even work. Beyond a virus scan I would suggest running spyware scans using Malwarebytes, AdAware, and Spybot.

BTW, IE8 is out now if you wanted to download and install it to give it a shot.

FireFox is a very good browser, of course there are other options too, Safari, Google Chrome, they are also good choices. You could try them all really if you want.

Firefox 3 is still less stable than 2 was, but overall I still prefer it to IE.

That may be. However, I'll say that I've been running FireFox 3 on Vista 64-bit for four months and neither has crashed once. I may be in the minority, but as far as I'm concerned it's all good.

Funny you shouel ask.

I am very much a FF user, not many add ons, runs faster for me, all that.

Except in the last few months, something weird happens here on TBBS. When a page is being loaded, the RAM usage suddenly ramps up and the CPU usage goes to 100%, and everything freezes. Open Task Mngr, can it, restart it, goes fine for a while, and it's not consistent. Have no problem with any other site. Run TBBS in Opera, runs fast and smooth.

All things considered, I prefer the Fox. Later I think I'll swap to Chrome, because it's so much faster, just a bit too light in features for me right now.

Firefox 3 is still less stable than 2 was, but overall I still prefer it to IE.

No crashes with FF 2 or 3 for me. They've even addressed some of the bugs 3 had, like the enter key not working in the "save" dialog box. Not a big issue, but annoying if you normally use mouse & keyboard for such things. Every now and then FF3 freezes up on the first attempt to look at bookmarks, but this is rare.

I've been using FF as long as it's been around and Netscape before that. IE is just too slow, and I like some of the add-ons for FF.

Tried Opera. The latest version looked and felt a lot like FF3, so I stuck with FF.

Firefox 2 never crashes on the CodeGuru forums. FF3 does with some regularity.

On the other hand, IE crashes there too, so I'm not sure FF3 is *entirely* responsible.....

I used to use Opera a lot, because I loved the mouse gestures, but one of the last few updates seems to freeze up quite often, and can't handle animated gifs for some reason. I think it's a bit slower too.

I've since gone back to Firefox for most things. It's quick, very stable, and has good search options. Shame about the mouse gestures, but it looks like there are some add-ons I could try.

I've still got IE 6, but never use it.

I prefer IE. I sometimes feel like I'm using some different version of IE than everyone else or something because others complain that it crashes and causes pop-ups and viruses and what not, but I've never had a problem with it. The only problems were when I was still using IE6 and there were some compatibility issues, but now that I'm on IE7 there's been no problems whatsoever. It's also very fast compared to when I tried Firefox.

Now, I really did try to like Firefox. At one point I used it for about a month, thinking that I just needed to get used to it and I would like it better. But that never happened...at the end of the month I uninstalled it. It was very slow to load and slow running. I don't care about add-ons so I didn't have any but it still wouldn't seem to start as fast as IE does. I also just really didn't like the layout and look of things. And I've never liked tabbed browsing. Firefox just seemed useless and annoying to me because it offered me nothing that I couldn't get from IE, and it was slower and less attractive looking in the process.

So basically you have to try it on your own and see what you think. However, if your IE isn't working for some reason, I doubt that downloading another browser will fix all your problems. There is obviously some important issue going on with your computer that is causing IE to not run properly.

I went FF back in 2001 and never looked back. It was always faster than IE, never got hung up, or any of that. I'm not one for bloatware, so Add-On stuff was minimized to nor more than two or three. I tried FF3 on the XP platform and it did not work well. A lot of users on another site I frequent reported many problems with FF3, particularly with the chat program. So, we all migrated to FF2.x.

Once I got my Mac, a friend recommended Camino (also by the makers of FF). It's very stable; however, for someone here to complain how FF processes bookmarks needs to see Camino. Camino is really bad with bookmarks, but is better in other areas.
