I wanted to post this here as a survey of interest, and a possible prelude to re-posting the very first "saga" that I ever wrote and posted here on the Trek BBS, my AU TNG/DS9-era saga "Star Trek: Entomalians".
I have been seriously pondering re-posting the saga here for three main reasons. One, It has been years since it was posted here, and you cannot find it even with an advanced search, so I'd like to introduce the newer BBS members to it.
Two, I learned a LOT, and I mean a LOT, writing "Battlestar Urantia"... writing that story, and playing in RDM's nuBSG universe really pushed me as a writer to figure out how to write strong emotions and REALLY improved my ability to write visual description, and I would like to take what I have learned, and apply that to "Star Trek: Entomalians", because as I look back on the story as it was the first time around... I can see how much my writing has improved since then, and I can see also how much shorter "Star Trek: Entomalians" was, compared to "Battlestar Urantia", and I want to see if I can improve and expand on what I wrote before, which will not only make the Trek story better, but will help me with "Shades of Gray" as well.
Three, again, it kind of ties in with reason two... "Battlestar Urantia" really forced me and taught me to write characters with real depth and dimension... people with complex emotion, and while "Star Trek: Entomalians" is in no way anywhere near as dark as nuBSG was, I still want to see if I can apply those skills to the "Star Trek: Entomalians" characters, and improve upon them... maybe give them a bit more dimension and life... make them feel more like real people with real emotions.
Now I know that I have tried to return to Trek before in the past, and have kind of dropped the ball, and that is due in part both to laziness and real life issues. But I am really intent on trying again with this, IF there is an audience here that would like to see it. So, below is a very basic synopsis of what "Star Trek: Entomalians" is:
"Star Trek: Entomalians" takes place in an alternate universe, where the UFP encounters the Dominion only one year after the events of Wolf 359.
The story centers around both the UFP, and the Entomalian Empire, and uses the Dominion War to "bridge together" many of the smaller B-stories we saw throughout TNG and DS9, in this AU setting, which allows a different chronology.
The story has 10 "episodes", which are listed below:
- "Blood and Thunder"
- "Duality"
- "Laying the Found(er)ation"
- "The Dyson Cube"
- "The Remilitarized Zone"
- "Black Gold"
- "The Big Borg Battle"
- "All the Queen's Ships and All the Queen's Men"
- "The Sky Is Falling"
- "Stargazing At Midnight"
The story, while using various bits and pieces from TNG and DS9 to weave and tell a much larger original story, is also at it's core, a story about the power of love, and the triumph of the will, to overcome insurmountable odds, and reshape the universe for the better.
So, please let me know, members of the Fan Fiction forum, if you would be interested in reading "Star Trek: Entomalians", if I re-post it here, in a new and improved version.
