Interest in Independence Day 3 movie/series

I read somewhere that Independence Day was originally a sequel to Stargate. With Ra’s race coming to Earth to attack. I don’t know if it’s true though
That's one of those urban legends. As far as I know, the origins of ID4 were Emmerich and Devlin talking in an interview about how alien invaders would be more likely to show up in big cities than abducting farm animals, and one of them then said that they'd found their next movie.

As for another sequel, not everything has to be a franchise. Sometimes a movie, even a successful one that's still popular years later, can just stand on its own.

If they make another fully expect will smith and his onscreen wife to miraculously be alive, I mean if Brent Spiners character can survive dying surely they can to

Their is still a few landmarks they can destroy so why not. The Eiffel tower,Grand Canyon, The Alamo,Mount Rushmore, St.Peter's Cathedral,Taj Mahal and Wrigley Field to name a few.
Pugsley Addams already got the Grand Canyon, so we can strike that one off the list.

Well, the sequel hook at the end of IDR was that we were going to track the aliens down

A chance to see their home system. Megastructures in fine CGI…Earth gets FTL…I want to see that. Grazer (gamma ray laser) to detonate their Star before a mega invasion. Great eye candy

I read the prequel novel before the movie came out. It made the sequel a little more tolerable.

Oh? What made it more tolerable if I may ask?

I suppose if Stargate as a single cut and done movie could give us a multi-show franchise that was pretty succesfull, you can make a show work out of threats left hanging in ID4R.

Set the first season a few years after the movie, where we learned more from the Sphere. Rebuilding is still underway, the first ship with FTL is at a point where they can start trial runs. Thanks to the Sphere's knowledge, we've learned more about other alien species out there, so instead if just humanity taking the fight to the invaders, there is talk of trying to reach out and form an alliance or something. It's going to take a while before we actually fight the big baddies, maybe some skirmishes along the way.

I don't know, just thinking out loud. All I'm saying is, there's the potential for a show that last several seasons with it finally ending in taking out the locust aliens.

I didn't even make it 15 mins into the sequel before noping out of there, so my interest in any new instalments is minimal to say the least. I mean the first movie wasn't even really a good movie to begin with (it was an entertaining movie--subtle difference), that took an old b-movie premise and cranked the cheese and spectacle up to 11. There really isn't anywhere interesting to go from there, at least not without making it an unrecognisable "sequel in name only" type of thing.

Even though the the second movie was awful I got to say the idea of seeing this alternate version of present day in that it's a world that had to rebuild after the aliens did so much damage in the first movie does make for a interesting setting for a tv show. Maybe some aliens are still on Earth. Fear of the aliens returning is a fear spread across the globe. Follow a show about a bunch of globe trotting hunters who work for the United Nations that has to go search for aliens. Maybe another group of humans want to capture them for nefarious reasons. Maybe a other group of aliens are involved as well.

There’s no reason they couldn’t make another good ID4 movie.

Cause there’s just no reason they couldn’t write a movie about aliens attacking Earth, then call it ID4. It’s such a base concept it’s hardly even a franchise. It’s an empty template to fill with stars.

It would be nice if they closed off the movie series with a third one when humanity actually turns the tables on the aliens and invades them to finally settle the score.

I was fairly intoxicated when I went to see the second ID4 at the theater (not something I made a habit of, thankfully). I wasn't particularly impressed, from what I could remember.

After re-watching it at home stone cold sober, it was apparent this was a better film when viewed through an incoherent, booze-fueled haze.

But sure, make another one. It'll be pretty. Dumb, but pretty.
