"Insurrection" Holoship designs - used and not - re-purposed vehicles?

Re: "Insurrection" Holoship designs - used and not - re-purposed vehic

If you put them on Photobucket, they re-size pretty well. Here's an example, which is big but manageable.

I always thought that if there were another pair of nacelles underneath this ship (to make it an uber-sized version of the Constellation class), it would have made the perfect ship for the Titan.

Re: "Insurrection" Holoship designs - used and not - re-purposed vehic

If the Ba'ku are, as presented, a small primitive tribe living on their home world then the Federation gets all Prime Directive-y about it. But if the Ba'ku are just another faction of a space-capable civilization that the Federation has regular dealings with, then, relocating one of their colony worlds with the approval of their legitimate government (and the Son'a could easily present themselves as the legitimate government of the Ba'ku; after all, who's got the diplomats going back and forth to Earth?) is no more inherently objectionable to Federation eyes than any treaty-based territory revision.
The point seems obvious: talking with primitives is a no-no. As long as the Ba'ku are classified as pre-starflight ignoramuses, nobody will ask them how they feel about the relocation and the devastating of their planet. But if they are classified as a luddite faction of the Son'a culture, they immediately get, if not a vote, then at least the right of statement.

What I find difficult to believe here is that anybody would mistake the Ba'ku for natives in any circumstances. They appear to have an iron age culture going there - and that's not something you can achieve with just one village. There should be an entire Ba'ku culture there, covering a reasonably large swath of the planet, or then a watertight backstory on how such a culture used to exist but was eradicated some time ago, with this one village left struggling for a few more centuries before the inevitable extinction.

In short, Insurrection is a sloppy mess of a movie.
I think it's the only Trek movie that attempts an unfolding plot, rather than one that's wide open to the audience from the teaser on. Obviously, some of the audience will feel disappointed and betrayed when the movie ends with a different premise from the one suggested at the start.

Thanks for the tip!!!

Yeah, I have though something similar - that this would make a good basis for a 24th century version of a constellation Class ("U.S.S. Stargazer")!!!

I would love to see some one with the skill mock one up!!! (Or any of the other ships! I wish I had the talent/skill myself...)

Hey, anyone out there have a link to the concept art for the unused "First Contact" ship (ships?)

THANKS!!!

Re: "Insurrection" Holoship designs - used and not - re-purposed vehic

Let's remember that the Evil Admiral didn't have to operate in secrecy: he had the full backing of the UFP government on this.

So he said. But I still find no reason to believe him.

Me neither. Well, I think he may have had their "permission" - but he wasn't telling them the whole truth - hence the willingness to destroy the Enterprise-E to stop the Federation Council from finding out...otherwise, he's be like "Eh, tell 'em what you want...they already know! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!"

Re: "Insurrection" Holoship designs - used and not - re-purposed vehic

... And I would *LOVE* to see fan-made renderings of these designs - or variations of - is anyone is up to it.
...

I've always liked the two un-used holo-ship designs. :bolian:

I guess it's not quite that you're asking for, but... several years ago I mashed up the "guppy" with a sovvie to get this (unfinished) model:

COOL!!!! THANKS!!! :)

Let's test this....

Re: "Insurrection" Holoship designs - used and not - re-purposed vehic

^I can so see "The Guppy" as a multi-purpose civilian passenger ship or Federation Marine Transport ship...cargo ship....medical vessel...short-medium-range explorer....etc...

Even, because of the boat-shape...a water-planet explorer!!!

(Does anyone think this thread would do better is Trek Art...????)

I wish they'd used that design, so nice and far better than the generic box they eventually decided on.

^I AGREE!

Plus it fist to round shape of the Ba'ku village - vs. the *suare* ship.

Than being said...the square ship does kind look more in-universe believable as a standard, off-the-shelf, re-purposed automated cargo vessel...with some quick and easy projectors slapped on the walls....(because *if* you ARE gonna go through the trouble of designing and commissioning an building a whole new class of vehicle - and shape and size and config you need...it makes more sense to go with the round one.)

(That why I kinda hate them calling it a "Holoship" or "Holoship Prototype" - unless "Holoship Prototype" just means "prototype holo-ship converted cargo vehicle. Though, such a vehicle - with a holomatrix/replicator interior - would make a great *instant* hologrphic medical vehicle (with it;s OWN EMH;s and holobiobeds, etc) - or an instant planetary evac vehicle) - and add replicators and you have evac supplies...)*

*I actually expect ALL Federation/Starfleet Starships in the near future to be like the Prometheus and have holographic grids built in -- and holo-projectors use transporter and replicator technology -- so they have infinitely and instantly re-configurable (and self-healing) interiors - with holographic controls - but that's another thread...one typed up but accidentally deleted, so will have to re do...)

^And, original holoship design or not - doesn't that just *look* like it would make a go cargo ship. (Cargo ships don't have to be pretty!) Has 24th Trek continued on TV, I would have expected to see this show up on some series re-purposed as a standard Federation and/or Starfleet automated - or skeleton crew - cargo ship. I know it has a bridge module - but few other amenities - so I see to "bridge" as a temporary control room used when a pilot or small crew might be needed...and for control systems maintenance work...

Infinitely configurable interior (for any use...any species...)

Re: "Insurrection" Holoship designs - used and not - re-purposed vehic

I believe the holoship is one of the models eagle moss are going to released as part of the official collection.
