Insanely good new Iron Maiden Sci-Fi music video

The cover for Dance of Death is awful, there's a bunch of mistakes in it, and even if it had been finished properly it would still be awful.

Eddie has had as many different looks as there have been albums, singles and maybe posters & t-shirts.

On Seventh Son he was a floating torso & on Fear Of The Dark he was part of a tree.

I know that....but he always looked like "Eddie". When did he change so radically, there's barely any of the iconic Eddie in this creature in the video....so it was somewhat of a let down, Eddie wise. I want to see Eddie from the Killers, Number Of The Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave days. :(

I think I might go pick up Powerslave again.

I suppose they felt the need to bulk him up for the video. Easier for him to squash that guy's head.

But that iconic look he's had for the most part since Killers with the ^ where his nose should be, and so on, isn't there so much on this new version.

The Final Frontier Eddie looks kinda like a Predator, or an Aliens xenomorph.

I enjoy seeing his various guises over the years. My favourites probably being the Somewhere In Time cyborg Eddie, the Piece Of Mind 'Trooper' Eddie, and the 'Killers' Eddie.

Their success seems to be entirely independent of radio play. They have never had any sort of radio support whatsoever in the UK even when they were wildly popular, and yet they still managed to get Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter to Christmas no.1 and sell bucket loads of albums throughout their career.

I imagine the only time Radio 1 played Bring Your Daughter was during the chart rundown itself.

you're absolutely right there.. Albuquerque plays IM in heavy rotation, a fact that's kept them coming here for the past serveral tours.. I think Albuquerque was the number one market for Maiden in the country at one point.. I saw the BNW tour and the greatest hits that came around last time, but had to give them a miss last month... I heard it was only so-so, in that they played mostly new stuff and little of the older. I'm all for playing new material, but make sure you give the people what they want.

As for the video: :techman:

They put a lot of effort into the video. Cool.

However, I don't really care for Eddie as a giant CGI monster. Seems less inspired.

A story from www.hardradio.com from 7/21/10.

"No, we don't do $250," IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson says about acts that would charge that much and more. "But that's bullshit anyway. What that is is all these quote-unquote 'heritage' acts . That's the name they've branded themselves with." "Basically, you're going and seeing a bunch of bands that have been around for a while doing the same old shit. They just come out of the woodwork after 10 years and go, 'Hmm, let me see. You're going to pay through the nose for seeing the same old shit so were gonna rape you for 200 bucks a ticket.' And what that says to me is, 'We won't be doing this again any time soon' or 'If you're crazy enough to pay this money and sell out, well maybe we'll come round again next year and see if it works again.'"
That goes to show what cool is.

Bruce is a legend, world class competitive fencer, professional passenger jet pilot and frontman of one of the worlds most famous heavy metal bands. I do not know how he manages it all, that is one talented guy

And it doesn't seem to have ever gone to his head, or driven him to being a drug addict.

He's very quotable.

BTW, did you ever see Chemical Wedding, the movie (Crowley here in the USA)? I loved it. Very twisted and entertaining.

No, I wasn't aware of it actually, I guess we can add scriptwriter to the list then.

I shall resolve this situation tonight.

As it goes, i've not really checked out his artistic works beyond Maiden. I bought Tattooed Millionaire when it came out, but I haven't heard his other solo albums. TM I thought was crap, but I hear his other albums are excellent.

Like I said earlier, Accident Of Birth & Chemical Wedding (the album) are 2 awesome albums. I mentioned these albums in the "perfect album" thread as being listenable in their entirety.

Both happen to have one Adrian Smith playing guitar. And Roy Z (producer) and tribe Of Gypsies also appear as "the band".

I've been meaning to get 2005's Tyranny Of Souls, which has Roy Z again appearing and producing.

Oh yeah. Still lots of new stuff from old groups.

As much as I don't like the way Gene & Paul treat other (ex-)band members, the new KISS album is pretty damn good. It has a very good retro feel without sounding old.

And as far as a "group" that hasn't changed their sound much at all, but still kicks major ass...Megadeth.

Instrumentally, sure. But the lyrics in "Endgame" are pretty much trash. It's like Mustaine doesn't even want to bother trying to write lyrics that rhyme or that he can even sing without tripping over.

If I could just get a version of that album with all the vocals removed, it'd be pretty friggin' sweet.

That would be the downside to not changing the writing style.

But it is really the "Dave Mustaine Project" after all. He doesn't have the motivation or need to please any other members the way most bands do.

I thought Mustaine had his hand destroyed and couldn't play anymore?

Or, I guess he recovered?

Yeah, I think he rehabbed it to the point he could play again.

Plus there's always been a second guitarist in the band.

Yeah, but other than the Marty Friedman years, Mustaine has ALWAYS been the better of the two guitarists (in my humble opinion, and no offense meant to the legions of Chris Poland fans )

Ok. Back to the original topic.

These are the lyrics I have heard. I'm sure it's not 100 percent accurate so I hope I can get some corrections.

Kleiner 6 this is control, what the hell happened?

Tell me this job is nearly over.

Control this is Kleiner 6.
I had something to put to bed back there.
It is now nicely wrapped in our napalm blankets.
But I got the key.

Kleiner6 request an ETA for touchdown on final frontier.

About to make planetfall, locate the relic.
And I'll serve up the ashes of that wart of our planets.
Eddie, what took you so long? Taking evasive action over and out.

I'm stranded in space. I'm lost without trace.
I haven't a chance of getting away.
Too close to the sun. I surely will burn.
Like Icarus before me or so legend goes.

I'm taken my life, reliving the past.
There's nothing but wait till my time comes.

I've had a good life, I'd do it again.
Maybe I'll come back some time my friends.

For I have lived my life to the full. I have no regrets.
But I wish I could talk to my family to tell them one last goodbye.

The Final Frontier x4

If I could survive, to live one more time.
I wouldn't be changing a thing at all.
Do more more in my life then some do in ten.
I'd go back and do it all over again.

For I have lived my life to the full. I have no regrets.
But I wish I could talk to my family and tell them that one last goodbye.

The Final Frontier x4

There isn't much time, must say my last rites.
Nobody is here to read them to me.
Must say my goodbyes,if only a line.
A message to tell them in case they might find.

For I have lived my life to the full. I have no regrets.
But I wish I could talk to my family to tell them that one last goodbye.

The Final Frontier x12

I'm actually glad Maiden are playing mostly the newer material on this latest tour. I mean, they played the classic stuff on the last one. They put out a DVD of it. There's no shortage of tours where they play the old songs. I have liked all the albums so far from the Adrian/Bruce reunion era, and I hope I'll enjoy The Final Frontier just as much.
