Insanely good new Iron Maiden Sci-Fi music video

^ Not a Maiden fan, or just don't like this particular song?

I can see why a lot of people wouldn't go for this sort of thing, to me though it has all the hallmarks of a classic-to-be Maiden track.

I don't know how any Maiden song can get to be a classic any more. Terrestrial radio in the Chicago area sucks. There is one AM station that plays metal, at least at night.

They just sell their albums and play their hundreds of shows.

I did hear El Dorado on Sirius - Boneyard last week though, and I have the free download.

Their success seems to be entirely independent of radio play. They have never had any sort of radio support whatsoever in the UK even when they were wildly popular, and yet they still managed to get Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter to Christmas no.1 and sell bucket loads of albums throughout their career.

I imagine the only time Radio 1 played Bring Your Daughter was during the chart rundown itself.

Actually, I'd never herd one of their songs before, so I've no idea if this is typical for them or not. I just know I felt it sucked, but figured I should see it through to the end anyway because so many people seem to think it's good.

Oh hah, well it's quite typical really. If you can stomach it see what you think by comparison with this, which is widely considered to be them at their best.

Worth a watch just for Python Graham Chapman, he might distract you from the song if you hate it

I was really digging that until the singer opened his mouth. Seems I can't stand his singing voice (or lack thereof, really...)

I'm a big Maiden fan, have been for the better part of 20 years, but I have to say, I wouldn't put this track anywhere near the same league tracks like Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Aces High, Revelations, The Flight of Icarus, Number of the Beast, Powerslave...etc. Now they're classic Maiden tracks.

To be honest, this new stuff isn't blowing me away at all. I reckon the last great album they did was Brave New World, but that's just me. AndI do agree that the Blaze Bailey years are best forgotten. Or somehow retconned away.

Cool video, though.

I'm really surprised by the lack of love for A Matter of Life & Death, personally I kind of skipped everything after Fear of the Dark (besides hearing enough of the Blaze material to confirm that I hated it) and I didn't bother with them again until the last album.

AMoL&D rekindled my love for them, so I heard that, Brave New World and Dance of Death all within a few weeks of each other, I think AMoL&D is easily the strongest personally.

Although I have liked a lot of what I have heard, Post-Blaze era Iron Maiden has been utterly underwhelming. To be honest I don't think I have ever been able to listen even one Iron Maiden CD all the through and then once again without switching to something else since at least Seventh Son in any case. From Iron Maiden up through Seventh Son, I can take any one of those CDs and listen to it on repeat for several iterations before I get bored and want to listen to something else.

Maybe it's just Janick Gers influence that I don't like?

But Adrian has been back since Brave New World, in addition to Janinck & Dave, but there has been a slight difference with Janinck obviously. He just has a different style.

How many groups have an album you can listen to in it's entirety? And how many albums does that group have?
Even the new bands I get into each have maybe one album out of several that I can sit through the entire thing regularly.

I still love these bands, and definitely still love Maiden who have been around for 30 years now, so it can't be easy to keep turning out good music let alone great music, like from the Powerslave era.

I like everything from the Bruce and Adrian reunion era so far. AMOLAD is one of their best albums, IMO.

I think there was definitely a drop off in quality after the brilliant Seventh Son, though. No Prayer.. was pretty weak. Fear of the Dark was decent, actually, but there was a lot of filler on it. X Factor had a couple of good songs (the first two, pretty much), but otherwise meh. Virtual XI was possibly the worst IM album. Since Brave New World, I think they're getting their mojo back.

I thought the last 2 Dickinson albums were fairly close to awesome, and so much better than X and XI it wasn't even funny.

I would probably like the 2000 era Iron Maiden much more if Steve Harris would let the bass rip like he used to and if Bruce wouldn't pad the songs by singing the chorus a hundred times in a row.

Hmm. I want to like it more, but a Raiders "homage" then a running from an explosion cliche. From all the praise I was expecting something better.

Video was pretty good, song completely forgettable. Ending was shit tho....too predictable with Eddie getting aboard the ship.

Also, what the hell happened to Eddie?!?! Barely looked like the Eddie I remember......last Maiden album I listened to was Powerslave. After "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner"....there just wasn't any point. It was like the climax of Maiden for me.

Eddie has had as many different looks as there have been albums, singles and maybe posters & t-shirts.

On Seventh Son he was a floating torso & on Fear Of The Dark he was part of a tree.

I'll tell you what though, one thing I have ALWAYS loved about Iron Maiden was their insanely awesome poster-worthy album artwork (with very few exceptions). The album cover to The Final Frontier looks like it belongs with the classics, IMHO.
