I have to agree with Skip. If you're looking for a better possibility with a nautical basis, I'd look to something a bit more relevant, like The Philadelphia Experiment.

A "Titanic"-type scenario could make for interesting science fiction. It worked great in an episode of Futurama.

It was also used in a couple of iterations of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, including a computer game produced by Terry Jones.
