Indiana Jones 5!

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was the first Indy movie that I found to be boring for long stretches. That was what I saw as its #1 failing, not anything about the subject matter. An Indiana Jones movie shouldn't be boring.

Clearly a lot of people didn't feel similarly. I'm glad that there's excitement about more movies.

Yeah, that too. I could have lived with the subject matter if it at least had the high energy and witty banter of the previous movies.

Instead we got dull, talky exposition about Mayan culture and a bunch of cheesy, cartoonish action that looked like it came out of the Mummy films. Ugh.

I still don't understand what the problem was, I mean there were melting and exploding heads in 'Raiders Of The Lost Ark', pulling hearts out and the person is still alive in 'Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom', and a man ages to death in 'Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade', so the themes in 'Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull' were right up the same ally. Kind of neat it came out close to 2012, the year of the aliens. I like the creepy/eerie sounds in the new movie as well.

I agree. I also feel that the "supernatural presence" of Kingdom matched the decade's hysteria it was trying to represent: the 50s. What era did flying saucers and little green men start entering the public consciousness? The 50s. Lucas has always strived to accurately represent the themes and public consciousness of the eras he's depicting.

The alien/Roswell/Mayan thing on the other hand is nothing but cheap National Enquirer crap that's only been around the last 80 years or so.

that's historical

I'm certainly up for more, though I thought Kingdom was a slight disappointment. I'm still not big on the whole
extradimensional aliens
thing, but I get that they were trying to go for a 50s sci-fi movie feel.

thank you. that is exactly what i keep saying. is it THAT much harder to believe? c'mon, folks, it's a movie! in a series where crazy shit happens!

sit back and enjoy the ride

Exactly, its' not hard to believe at all. I think the people that like the three but not the fourth really believe in the religious supernatural stuff really happens and yet not the alien stuff really happening, when all four movies have things that are not real and are all enjoyable

I'm in the same boat with the rest of the fans who can't understand the hate.. Yes the waterfall scene was unbelievable.. BUT...

In watching Temple of Doom, is not the freefall in the life raft just as implausible? In Raiders, is not the submarine ride to the island just as implausible? Especially in the context of them being sci-fi movies?

I loved Kingdom for what it was. Another chapter in one of my favorite movies series... Not as good as the first, but better than the second and on par with the third.

Bring on part 5 and part 6.. with a bit less Shia, please.... Nothing against his performance, but these are Indy movies.. He should be nothing more than a glorified sidekick..

These people speak the truth. Sure, the aliens bit was a tad heavy-handed, but I still enjoyed CS immensely. I look forward to Indy V! :)

They're going to rape Indy some more? Please god no. :wtf:

For those not knowing, it's a south park reference in which I kind of agree with.

Mark my words, when, not if, but when they make another Indiana Jones film it will be with a younger actor, because it will take a number of years (More than 2 years from now, because we know Spielberg and Lucas won't be making an announcement next January for another production for a 2010 summer release.) before we see another Indiana Jones film.

Harrison Ford is 66 years old, and the math alone dictates that we won't be seeing a 70+ Indy doing the action and stunts a man half his age does, unless he takes up the Sean Connery role from The Last Crusade and passes the hat and the whip to a younger actor (Probably not Shia, but someone as equally rugged and charismatic as Ford.).

Ford proved to all of the naysayers in the last film that "he's still got it," and he really has nothing else to prove to the public, and he doesn't have to, whether financially or by choice.

Besides, we have already seen another Indiana Jones with Sean Patrick Flannery in an official Lucas production, so this idea of replacing Ford is not inconceivable.

But, next time it will be a title without the "Young" in front of it.

James Bond was recast, and they even went and did the "unthinkable" and recast James T. Kirk. I would not bat a lash if Hollywood recast Rocky Balboa, John Rambo, John McClane, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa for future generations. If it can be done, you can bet Hollywood will find a way for it to be done, as it always has.

Here is something that I found on IMDB:

It was great to read this:

MTV: A few months later, can you be objective about the film now?

Ford: I have two heads. I can go inside or outside the film. I think that's important for me to see it in an external way.

MTV: Does that external head think this one stands up to the other three films?

Ford: That external head has no mouth. That external head is smart enough to keep his goddamn mouth shut. [Laughs.]

GREAT!!!!

Also:

MTV: You were recently voted the Best Movie President on AOL Moviefone. Isn't it your responsibility to pass on what you know to President-elect Obama?

Ford: Laughs. I don't know much. But apparently [that poll shows] neither does the public. [Laughs.]
I sure didn't like the sound of that. :borg:

Sounded like self-deprecating humour to me. Humility. He's just saying he's not all that like this poll is saying he is. From all the interviews I've seen him in, it fits.

Iohknow, the fourth movie left me a little cold. I can live with most of the things people complained about, but the scene where Mutt learns to swing through the trees on vines, catches up to a high speed vehicle chase and then emerges to defeat the Russians with an army of monkeys?
Lost me there...

The only real problem I had with Crystal Skulls was that some of the action scenes went on too long; brevity makes a bigger impact when it comes to action scenes.
