Independence Day - Resurgence

It looks fun, which is all I'm asking for. Granted it won't be quite as fun without Will Smith, but still fun nonetheless.

Actually my biggest gripe with this film so far is that they recast Mae Whitman for no good reason. Sorry, but that just bugs me, especially if the reason for it is what I fear that it is.

Curious...what do you fear the reason might be?

I'm sorry but I can't feel any threat from these aliens. Seriously, they don't stand a chance. Windows 10 just came out.

This looks to be a little more gritty like the current trend of films but I don't think it will lose the humor of the first movie. I am super psyched!!

I didn't even know that existed, must have missed it, thanks for that!

They also used that same quote in the teaser trailer for Episode III

^And the Clone Wars "100 episodes" trailer. Clearly a popular quote. ;)

Yeah, using a clip from a previous movie is a very common practice, especially in the first teaser trailer. Both from a nostalgic/brand recognition standpoint but also since that's usually at a point when the movie is still 6, 8 or even 12 months away and not all the footage is ready yet, so there's less usable material to cut to.

Just to throw another example out there: the first teaser for X2 straight-up used a fair chunk of the previous movie's final scene, right there in the teaser.

Yeah I really hope there is some humor in the movie. We got a little "Well that's bigger than the last" which is nice.

And having just watched the 'Star Trek' Beyond trailer and then this one for the 5th time I'm now thrilled for a sequel to a movie that never needed one. I still wish there was more of an alien force on the planet.

I thought the sequel to Independence Day would be Labor Day.

Did anything happen in the video in the first post, I couldn't get through more than a minute of the skinny guy with the bad hair.

This movie looks exactly like what I wanted when I was 11 and the original came out. I can't wait to see this.

Plopping Pullman's speech from the first movie onto that trailer is a pretty clear sign that they have nothing new to bring to the table.
That speech is the best part of the original, they would be insane not to use it in some form.

^According to chronology on the viral website, a bunch of alien survivors from the first movie have been holed up in the Congo this whole time, hence those skulls we see in the trailer. I think it's safe to say we'll see aliens on the ground.

We always knew they'd make a sequel......

Looks good. The first film was a fun ride. This looks set to be too.

We also saw one or two clips of a group of people with big alien tech rifles, and one of them being attacked, so it looks like we might get a least some ground combat this time.

Among the many things about the trailer I like...Bill Pullman's character seems to almost take on the same type of role as Randy Quaid in the first film.
