I love it that the entire cast is back. A pity Will Smith isn't.

I also like the set design, and the idea of a moon base a lot. My expectations are up.

I'm happy Will Smith won't be in it.

Nice to see the video. I hadn't seen it before. But the host is extremely annoying.

Glad to see Goldblum and Hirsch. Judd stole the first one from all of them!!!

"Vultures!"

The host is awful... But I'm happy to see and hear news of the movie... I forgot it was being filmed here in NM...

Will they now use iPhones to hack the aliens?

I love the movie for the sheer stupidty of it and i like to see shit blown up from time to time so i'm definitely in. If it's good.. awesome, if it's bad i hope it's so bad that it actually becomes good again

''Moon Tug''

20 some years and they have a space defense force and a moon mech?

Seems fast doesn't it?

Considering they spent 50 years and couldn't even start a alien spaceship

Maybe it's because they have more tech to experiment with after all the motherships crashed down

- Like you say, lots more alien tech lying around in the crashed city destroyers for humans to reverse engineer.
- Goldblum deciphered their code so they can now operate the machines.
- More advanced computers on Earth to work with.
- It's no longer a secret project being worked on by a few people with limited budgets, but an open global initiative worked on by scientists from all nations with a nearly unlimited budget and top priority status.
- They know the aliens represent a clear and present threat now, so they're in more of a rush to develop countermeasures.
- They know their tactics, so having a forward line of defense on the Moon makes sense instead of waiting for them to come to Earth to strike. It also allows us to strike their fleet from two directions.

Anyway, the plane, Moon Tug, and Lunar hangar are pretty sweet. The rest of the live event was kind of lame, though, and that host was terrible. Still, it's good to see most of the old cast, and the new cast members seem good. I'm looking forward to it.

So, the "their entire race" line, the sheer size of the mothership making it their one and only, is being thrown out?

Please at least let it be one of the aliens enemies, less advanced and more on the level of...well wait all human cities were destroyed so based on our responce to natural disasters at all we're going to need about 300 years to recover from that.

But yeah, moonbase when most of the human race would be starving and dying from disease and having no homes. Fuck it, why not.

It said their entire race moves from planet to planet exploiting all resources until they're used up. I don't think it said their entire race had to all be inside the mothership that was destroyed in ID4. It could be the advanced scouting and beachhead establishing mission for the colonization ships that come later.

Humanity recovered fairly swiftly from the devastation wrought during World War 1 & 2, and while this was worse, it's also got a global human effort behind it to both repair our infrastructure and to prepare for the aliens return. Uniting humanity in a common cause is a huge motivating factor.

I think you're taking it a tad too seriously.

The miltary aspect of this race was nuked, the rest exploded. What's left isn't going to want to wage a war since they are now left without their resource extraction technology, they're weak and defenceless too, why pick a fight?

The death toll is likely to be in excess of well over a billion, nearly every major human city was destroyed utterly at once, the most populated ones had people gathering to each ground zero.

There's no money, no food, no water, no homes. Governments can't do anything to restore order as the military is gone, and no one is any more important than any other now.

I mean hell America now everyone shoots anyone in their way, imagine the world left after the aliens, government mowing down anyone who doesn't obey, citizens exerting their right to any left over resources etc

Moonbases and starships just a few years after that? alien invasions and Apple devices accomplishing something useful is worlds more believable than that.

Anyway, the plane, Moon Tug, and Lunar hangar are pretty sweet.

Looks like the two vehicles have some sort of new alien/human reverse engineered engine

Advanced fighter planes in space! That will be cool to see

Imagine an F-22 raptor with a hyperdrive type engine flying in space

Honestly, I'm more interested in hearing how Dr Okun is still around, than with turning it into an allegory of Hurricane Katrina.

Adam Baldwin felt for his pulse and gave a grim look, but there was no definitive statement that Okun was dead. He could have just been unconscious after the alien hijacked his mind.

Plus, I'm guessing that his telepathic connection to the alien might have given him a lot more insights into their society which serves as a means of exposition in this film, perhaps even advanced warning of the follow-on colonization fleet.

Alternatively, his comment during the live event made it sound like he was filming all of his scenes separate from the rest of the cast, so it's possible that his story might even be a flashback back to before he died and before the events of the first film. Though it can't be too far, because there's only so much a longer wig and makeup can do to cover up the fact that Brent Spiner is much older looking. They can't go back to his hippie days in the 60s when he first started working on the spacecraft, and it wouldn't really add much of anything new to the story, since we know they didn't discover much about it.

Aye, him not actually being quite dead when Baldwin checked is handwavy enough for me, and I don't mind the idea that he could have some residual connection to the aliens either.

In regards to the flashback idea, I suppose they could always try and de-age him with CGI, or even a combination of make up and computer effects. It's been done with varying degrees of success in previous films, and clearly the tech and know-how exists to pull it off.

The longer hair comment could mean he's been in a coma.

He'll still be out of touch since he missed the last 20 years. He'll awake when the next wave arrives.

That makes a lot of sense. He's still got a connection to the aliens and senses their approach, waking up, giving the humans a bit of advanced warning to organize. Plus, it still allows him to provide exposition about their motives and actions. Good call.

The death toll is likely to be in excess of well over a billion, nearly every major human city was destroyed utterly at once

Well, we don't know if every major city was destroyed. I'm sure a few could have survived. (The aliens didn't attack all at once...IIRC, the scene where we see a map detailing their progress only shows maybe a dozen or so cities confirmed destroyed)

And those cities that were destroyed could certainly be rebuilt - although, this not being the Trek universe and all ;) , each city alone would probably take at least a century to be completely reconstructed. (Alien technology might help in this regard, though.)

Well yeah. I thought if we ever got a sequel, we'd see an enormous rebuilding effort with new borders and struggling societies. Not some global community with a space fleet ready to attack back, that's stretching things.

I mean how long would it take to even start taking one of those city ships apart, nevermind 50.

I thought WS was pretty good in the original ID4 but I never once thought he'd be back for this. He's much too big a star now. I wonder if he was even asked.

But what I'm wondering is, what about Robert Loggia? General Grey was my favorite character in ID4. If Loggia is still with us, he's probably retired now, but it'd be cool if he could come back...
