I hate it when kids text in class. It's plain rude. The girls even think that putting their bag/purse on their desk, and hiding the phone inside of it will prevent them from being seen. Right...
There's one kid who stands down the row from me in choir...who texts from behind his music during rehearsal. I can't wait til my teacher sees him, and he will see him, it's just a matter of time. Kid'll either get a good talking to, or be thrown out of the room, and the group for good. I'm hoping it's the second. Of all the classes to do that in, choir is not one of them.

I was interviewing a guy for a job and his phone went off.
He answered it, held up his index finger to me, and started to have a conversation about where he and his buddies were going drinking that night.

So I'm in a fitting room of a women's clothing store, changing out of something, and someone with a wolf whistle as a ring tone gets a phone call. That gave me a nice little freak-out moment.
And just a week ago, one of my professors had his cell phone go off mid-lecture. Problem was, he was being observed by the assistant dean during that particular class session.

I don't care if someone's phone goes off in class or when I'm out to dinner so long as they don't stop everything for a stupid hello or text. Phones going off by accident will always happen.
I remember the first time I got to tell a kid off for using her phone. I was directing a play with a bunch of 15-18 year-olds as actors and one girl started to text someone while I was giving directions to the group as a whole. I had to tell her twice to quit that, and had to threaten her with taking her phone away until she stopped. She honestly had no idea how rude it was.
What the hell did he expect? If he's like that in the interview, what would he be like in the job?
My math teacher would take my calculator away, because he knew exactly what I was doing with it.

OK, I'm officially old. I had no idea that there were calculators that could have anything downloaded into them.
The only thing we could do was hold 07734 upside down to say "HELLO"
I used to play that silly Mario-like penguin game on my TI-83.
Then I got a TI-89, and suddenly no one else could share programs with me anymore. Not to mention the calc teacher never let me use my own calculator on tests....
Of course, that's all 10 years past now. Nobody bothers with calculator games much anymore.

Today I was driving home and had to go through a two lane, 55mph tunnel, and some yahoo is texting on his phone and sorta driving his truck barely keeping it in the left lane. Ack.

I remember playing a game with a penguin (the linux penguin going by the title screen) named Slippy. Not really a Mario-like game though, it was a straight up puzzle game.
Most of the calculators we had were... TI-82s I think... which were owned by the school. People would pretty much steal them and use them as their own. I was the one kid who bought that horrible serial port cable for these things capable of putting the high quality assembler(?) coded apps. I bought the TI-89 as well, but I was pretty much responsible for loading up at least 80% of the school's calculators with games
My teachers were a bit clueless on the impressive feature set of the TI-89, and I wasn't about to tell them. I used that thing on my calc tests... in high school... AND college... I think I even had it with me when I took the ACT
Now my Nintendo DSi has downloadable calculators. Hrm.
I had the TI-92, which had a full-keyboard and many considered a tiny laptop. Programing that thing was fun but no teacher knew how to use the silly thing because the programing of it was different than the TI-8x models. Needless, I figured the thing out pretty damn well.
God, I loved that thing. I need to dig it out and play around with it.

I think I passed on the TI-92 because it didn't have the advanced stuff that solved some calculus for you. Though I think they put out a TI-92+ or something that had that feature. Also, since it looked more like a computer than a calculator I figured I would have less luck in using it on tests and the like
