Inappropiate cell/mobile phone ringing

Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman were appearing in a play on Broadway when someone's phonme rang. This is how it waS handled by them

In the middle of a tense dramatic scene, a phone can be heard. While staying in character, Jackman points to the phone offender and says: “You wanna get that? You wanna get that, grab it I don’t care.

"Grab your phone it doesn’t matter."

A few seconds later the phone starts to ring again prompting Jackman, still in character to say: “Come on, just turn it off unless you got a better story, you want to get up and tell your story?”

Craig then also chimes in with: “Can you get that, whoever it is can you just get it? We can wait just get the phone,” Craig says.

So I will ask you to tell me when's the most inappropriate time you've heard a mobile /cell phone ring? What happened?

I was once at a funeral when I heard a phone ringing. I believe that the person actually walked out of the chapel while he answered it.

Hmm... I don't think I have any good stories about cell phone ring offenders, but I am easily offended by the inapproprate usage of them. People who text continually while talking to me are a source of irritation, and - as public places go - it always irritates me when I go to a nice Concert/Opera Hall that specifically has signs prohibiting cameras, and still see flashes throughout the performance from folks who apparently don't care.

I spend most of my non-occupied/busy waking hours glued to a computer screen one way or another, but cell phones are where I draw the line. I have a prepaid one that works wonders for the rare moments when I have to be reached or need a phone while I'm out. Also, it has been years since I have carried a cell phone that was not always set to vibrate.

For a society that is as self-centered as ours, we sure do have a way of over-communicating with others.

Idiotic twat driving down the freeway in a convertible, swerving all over the the place, texting. I actually trailed her at a safe distance for about 2 minutes out of morbid curiosity. She didn't stop texting and swerving before I took my exit.

I once had someone sitting behind me in the movie theatre who actually started to have a whispered conversation on the phone. I turned around and told her to stop that. She did and that as the end of it.

One of my worst issues wth mobile phones is nott he ringing, but the fact that, once the theatre gets darka dn the movie starts, I have to squint to not be blinded by all the brightly-lit cell phone screens in the rows in front of me. All that despite the fact that the message asking people to turn of their phones has been off the screen for ten minutes.

And the times that phones would ring in church are too numerous to mention by now.

What kind of demented lunatic sends text messages while driving? :wtf:

For fuck's sake, call someone if you need to talk that bad! At least then you can keep your fucking eyes on the road, even if you aren't paying close attention.

People who don't mute/dim their phones in movie theaters definitely bug me. They seem to have cracked down on that, though, since I rarely see it anymore.

But yeah, people talking on the phone while driving, texting while I am trying to communicate with them, and so forth... very irritating. And dangerous, in the case of driving.

I can't imagine anything more insulting than to have the person across from me at dinner start texting or calling someone else. What is it about a cell phone that makes people think that the human being in FRONT of them matters less than the ringing of a phone?

When we visited my Dad in the hospital last month, my sister thought it was more important to answer her friend's call than to visit with a sick, confused old man. Not to mention the huge sign that said "NO CELL PHONES IN ICU PLEASE."

And if one more stupid teenager flips open his blindingly bright cell phone in front of me during a film, I may resort to violence. :klingon:

I'm reminded of an outtake I saw from the 2nd X Fliles film when they're doing a scene and Amanda Peet's cell phone rings. She is mortified and constantly saying "I'm sorry! I'm soooo sorry!" as she fumbles and turns it off.

what really pees me off is when i'm talking to someone and thier phone rings. they just stop talking and answer the bloody phone and start talking with them about what they are doing next week. then they get all shitty when I walk away i'm like
"hey i thought we had finished when you answered your bloody phone"

oh and using them in libaries and cinemas really winds me up.

Yeah, that drives me nuts as well. I have this one friend with a really stupid rap ringtone for his text messages... if that thing goes off he'll trail off mid-sentence and go into hunt and peck texting mode for a few minutes.

I really need one of those Picard facepalm pics at the ready for these forums.

People seem to think that it's only the ringtone that annoys people at the theater, which is just not true. As you say those things put off a lot of light in a dark environment. Sometimes I send text messages during previews and the like, but I go out of my way to block the phone by bringing it very close to my body and using my free hand to block light. I would never consider doing even that during the actual feature.

When the cell phone retards get really bad I bring my arm across my face to block everything below the screen... kind of like how you might block the sun.

Someone ought to write a book on cell phone etiquette. You'd think it's common sense, but no, some people don't have any sense.

One time, I was at a fast food place and this guy was chatting on his phone and standing where I wasn't sure if he was in line or not. I asked several times and he turned his back to me. Then I thought "forget this" and got in line.

He had the gall to look annoyed at me - I think I did end up butting in front of him, but I just ignored the idiot.

I must admit I wouldn't have thought twice about using a phone to text or check the internet or whatever in a cinema, provided it wasn't making noise. I wouldn't have figured the light would be an issue for some people; the light never bothers me when others use theirs in a movie. It only bugs me if it audibly rings and/or they have a voice conversation on the phone during the feature. I'll try to cover the screen a bit in future if it actually bugs people.

I have texted while driving but only in virtually stationary traffic in which context it's safe. Normally, I'd just make calls on my wireless headset if I need to contact someone while driving. Mind you, I do use a dictaphone to do letters while driving sometimes.

If I need to take a call during social occasions, which will inevitably happen sometimes, I always apologise in advance and afterwards and keep the call as brief as required. People are cool with that, and hey, they sometimes need to do the same, so no big deal.

Once in mass, while the priest was blessing the host, someone's cell phone started ringing and their ring tone was the hamster dance! Totally inappropriate, yet totally awesome!

1. Yes, it really bugs people.
2. Why do you need to text or check the internet during a feature? Just have fun watching the movie, and forget about the world for a couple of hours.

I once saw someone reading a book while driving. A paperback novel, just spread out across the steering wheel.

People who do things like that should just plain lose their license, at least for a year, and forever if it happens twice. That's fucking absurd.

Sometimes it's a shitty movie.

What I hate are those losers who want to talk loud on their cell phone thinking I care about their business and that they are important.

I dont care about your grandma's hospital visit or what the caterer is going to bring to your house party.
