in "The Offspring" when Troi and Data were watching Lal

chose a form in the holodeck and Troi says "A friend for Worf" when Lal looks at The Klingon male form, I feel like this line is so cringe worthy that I am amazed the writers thought this was something a grown woman would say.

Yeah, it's a silly line.

On the other hand, Worf's "terrible two's" (season 2 where it seemed the charachter could only growl) were not too far behind him, and the show had only just started to develop him as a character with more depth. Perhaps back in those days, the Ent-D crew still didn't quite know what to make of Worf ?

Well Worf was the only Klingon on the E-D, so maybe Troi was thinking that a Klingon Lal would enjoy Worf’s calisthenics program with Worf.

There's a big difference between saying something completely seriously and saying it in mildly in jest just as something to say.

Seemed like a toss-off line with benign intent.
Must say, I love your sig quote from Taxi by Harry Chapin. A long time favorite artist for me, taken way too soon.

It's a different time.

Although, an empath who cannot feel the feeling a person is feeling assumes that they are dead or a card board cut out.

Deanna did a fantastic job patronizing Data's fauxmotional growth.

The superficial exterior is not going alter her personality.

Even in that male Klingon "body" she still would have made out with Riker.

So Data would allow Lal to be beaten up by Worf? Or beating up Worf, recalling one of the more horrific scenes in "Datalore"?

And yet her name was not "LOL"? :)

The way Deanna said it, sounded like she wasn't serious. Just a silly comment.
I guess it's fair to take it that way, I suppose, but what a time to be kidding around, when these are the two most likely candidates, in the known galaxy, to not get that, & the future of its identity hangs in the balance :guffaw:
