In Star Trek, is bald...better?

Speaking as a bald man, I say, HELL YES! BALD IS BETTER!!!!

Me too, and I'm not even all that bald, just getting there (quite against my will, but still.....).

I think most of the people who argue against baldness are mostly kids under 18 who are still locked into superficial shit like looks, and don't know any better

Bald is better when it comes to Starship captains, and when it comes to other things as well.

a lot of guys go bald. a lot of movies cast bald or balding guys as the bad guys- star trek realises that bald guys are just like other guys with not so much hair

Stewart definitely proved that you didn't have to look a certain way to be the guy running the big ship. I wasn't watching Trek when the show developed, but I can only imagine the initial reaction some long-time fans had.

The fact that Shinzon was bald goes very much against your theory.
The immeasurable fail of Shinzon outweighs the coolness of Picard, Sisko and Robau.

First Picard, then Sisko, then Robau.

Seriously...WTF?

And let's not forget Shatner!

Just out of curiosity, are there any pictures of Shatner on the web without his
hair piece? I never really new he was bald till a few years ago. Did he wear a
rug even back during the times he was doing Star Trek? Very interesting.

Shatner is still my favorite Star Trek Captain of them all even if the rumors of him being a jerk are true. Kirk kicks ass. :)

Sorry guys. I did not know that the subject of Mr. Shatner's hair (or lack of it) was already discussed before in another thread.

A couple of thoughts:

God is good, God is fair.
To some he gave brains, to others, hair.

God made only a few perfect heads in the world. He put hair on all the rest.

I found this on I can has cheeseburger, it pretty much sums it up.

Baldies are thought of by society as being inferior and faulty. They cannot compete against people with hair.Image is everything nowadays.Without image you are a has been or yesterdays history.

When a women goes bald due to cancer/chemo and reveals her baldy head people are shocked and horrified. It is even worse when she appears on tv which is why I change channels quickly when Gayle Porter appears.

It is a very disturbing and horrific sight.Like a horror film.

So unnatural.

Baldies fight against baldness by pretending baldies are cool but deep down in their hearts they ALL want a full head of hair.

My witness is the multibillion $$$ wig and worthless hair restorer creams/lotions.

Did you know that pubic hair is transplanted to the head as a hair transplant?

If a women were to run her fingers through such pubic hair transplanted hair man she would be really running her fingers through his pubes.

If a GENUINE hair cure was found I bet they would sell their mothers and kids to get their hands on it.

In Isaac Asimov's book The End of Eternity a bald character fights against his baldnerrs by fighting an entire society.

This shows the deep rooted psycho problems baldies suffer from.

I call BS on that. Millions of men choose to shave their heads rather than deal with the hair. Kinda like shaving their faces rather than deal with beards. To borrow a line from TNG: Once the safety razor was developed, the wearing of hair (any hair) is more of a fashion statement than practicality. Personally, I got in the habit of shaving my head weekly while I was in the Army. It was cheaper than getting it cut weekly by a barber I had to pay for, and easier to keep in regulations. It also had the benefit of getting my superiors to think I was "gung-ho" enough to shave my head for the Army; and it was far easier to maintain a neat appearance. My wife likes the look of me bald, so even years after leaving the Army, I still shave my head regularly (My mother doesn't like it, but oh well).

Some men shave their heads because they like the look.
Some men shave their heads because they prefer it to the natural baldness look.
Some men prefer the natural baldness look.
Some men hate both shaven and natural baldness looks, and take measures to maintain a full head of hair (sometimes going to extraordinary lengths).
Some men maintain full heads of hair naturally.

As I said above, this is a fashion choice. The choice to have stuff literally drilled into your scalp (in some cases) to maintain a full head of hair is entirely based upon self-image and desire to appear one way. Fashion. I will not question the logic behind such extraordinary efforts, as my logic has not (has never) taken me down such a course of action.

You may call it "rationalization" or other sorts of hand waving for me to "justify" my choice, but before you dismiss my point out of hand, did I state anywhere what my natural hair state is? I didn't. I may be naturally balding, I may have a natural full head of hair. I am bald by choice. What my genetics dictates we have already demonstrated is secondary in modern society.
