In "Honor" Of Columbus Day

Stoek

Commander
Red Shirt
Alright given the dubious merits of celebrating a man who was incompetent, abusive, a racist, a slave trader etc, I thought I'd go through the various Treks to find episodes dealing with the dangers of unwise and rash actions around exploration and colonization.

As always I'm eager to hear the suggestions and ideas of others.

Enterprise

Terra Nova
Civilization
Dear Doctor

Carbon Creek
The Communicator
Cogenitor

A Piece of the Action
A Private Little War
Patterns of Force
Spectre of the Gun

I'd add "Strange New World" for ENT.

I had considered it but wasn't sure since there's not really any "natives" to be negatively impacted by the crews presence, which is part of what I was looking for to link in with the idea of Colombus and his negative impact on the "personas por in dios" or "indians" that he found and exploited.

Who mourns for Adonais?

An alien who claims to be one of our gods in Greek history, demands total loyalty etc, defitely slaver material.

Ah, gotcha. You didn't mention anything about natives who are impacted negatively in your OP, so I didn't consider it, but that makes sense given the Columbus theme.

That's great. I had only been thinking in terms of episodes where "we" (aka the Starfleet/Federation characters) are the interlopers. But including one where it's turned on its head and we are the opressed natives rising up against the overlords is a great idea.

No problem. Sometimes with themed playlists I find that the concept gets further refined as suggestions are explored. Strange New World definitely will make the list for a more general Exploration themed playlist. (Damn I really wish netflix suported playlists. *L*)
