I don't get it? It looks like a comic book, which no matter how often they yell "CANON!" will be overran by the the folks working on TV/movies on a whim.

As far as Leia being frozen, who cares? It is a comic book, ignore it.

I't part of the canon.. so that means it happened

I like the Star Wars comics. They call it "canon." But I am under no pretense that it can be undone with a snap of the fingers.

For me? All I care about is if it is entertaining. Some of my favorite Trek comics are from DC's first run that started in 1984. Issues #9-#36 take place between The Search for Spock and The Voyage Home, where Kirk commands the USS Excelsior and Spock is the Captain of the USS Surak. Not remotely "canon" but there are some great stories there. Or the fact that there are multiple licensed stories about first contact with the Vulcans, Cochrane's first warp flight or the end of Kirk's five year mission on the Enterprise.

In the last few years, canon has become synonymous with "lacking imagination". Stories have become cookie-cutter and, from my POV, many of them are just plain poor.

Fuck canon, just give me good stories.

when Disney took over the franchise.. the first thing they did was say that anything that was not in the original films was not canon, but legends. In the same stroke, they said that anything they produced from that point on in books or other published works would be going forward

I know this. That does not mean that they couldn't reverse the decision at a moment's notice. All of the EU was once upon a time some level of "canon." Now its not. Plus, I'd say a vast majority of people don't read the books or comics, so if something really does bother you that much that you need to make a whole thread about it, its easy enough to ignore it. Plenty of other people are either unaware or just don't care about the books and comics.

And ya know what? The overall story still works.

I understand what you mean and agree with it. Sure. It has happened before in the old days with different levels of canon.

The problem is that the word "canon" really implies that it is set in stone as to it happening. If the company tells us that everything they publish going forward is canon, and then they decide it isn't or it "kind of is" that is a real breach of the fragile trust they share with the audience.

And this goes for Trek, MCU and everything else, but it seems Lucasfilm in particular is being the loosiest and goosiest about it, especially with all the flak about the TROS novelization!

True. I mean I could say that in my mind 7-9 are not canon (they are not) but they still are. But I'm good with my own thoughts.

Still the canon thing.. is important ..

Lets get back on topic - why is this so bad? Comics and novels are always doing these kinds of things right? They do have a story to carry on indefinitely so they end up doing stuff like this...

OK, some context to the above image for those who haven't read the comics:

The regular SW comic series has now moved into the post-TESB era. Our heroes have returned to Cloud City: Luke to see if he can find his lost lightsaber, Lando to spring his buddy Lobot (who the Empire captured), Leia to return to the carbon freezing chamber and learn how to defrost Han once they find him. She gets caught by a pair of stormtroopers, and into the vat she goes. "I love this part," one of them says as she freezes. "Makes handling Rebel scum so much easier. Don't have to feed them, don't have to worry about them escaping."

The story's not done yet, and when Leia inevitably gets saved & thawed she'll no doubt have a nasty case of hibernation sickness/temporary blindness. Try rewatching her attempted rescue of Han in ROTJ with that in mind.

I'm really confused as to what is so bad about this? It might not be at the greatest cliffhanger ever, but I don't see a problem with it.
