Well, the Roms DID have a whole empire. So I'm assuming that there are other worlds in their sphere of influence upon which the refugees can settle. The race isn't endangered and the Empire isn't ended.

A series about the staff working the bar shown in the film would have potential too, dealing with strange aliens who don't when they've had enough, but who'd watch? Enough to make it viable?

Well....i have been keeping up with the STO timeline they are making before they release the game. Romulus is not there. They followed what heppened in countdown, but did not follow Nero and Spock, they stayed in the prime timeline.

"Star Trek XI" takes place eight years after "Nemesis," so that's plenty of time for an entire "Star Trek: Titan" series starring Captain Riker to run its course, complete with Romulans.

If it's done by the TNG era production crew it might actually be good! But I wouldn't let JJ's people touch anything that has to do with Trek Prime. Why? The movie viewscreens are a good example!

I think they would have to include it. Because by not including it, you are saying the events of Star Trek XI never happened because the catalyst for those events was the destruction of Romulus in the Prime Universe.

EH NOT REALLY, the Romulans have been defeated by klingons many times in the "anti time" futures of TNG... now you know why!
The viewscreens/windows make perfect sense if you've ever worked in an office without windows. If its wrong to have windows on the bridge, why isn't located deep within the vessle, where it would be less vulnerable.
Whether it was an oversight or a budget concern, the lack of windows has now been addressed. Its called progress and hardly a senseless departure from tradition. As real technology advances, so will our predictions of the future. If trek is to be boxed in by some 60s/80s aesthetic then it deserves the death of obscurity it will receive.
The production crew of the TNG era is the reason Trek fell apart and we had to go to a JJ Abrams anyway.

(Actually, we never delete anything except against-the-rules stuff like porn and links to torrent sites.) We're just trying to keep sequel discussion somewhat compact, since the main purpose of this forum is discussion of the current movie. This thread may be merging there soon, as well.
Fortunately, Star Trek Online is incompatible with (and, AFAIK, not referenced in) Trek's current novel continuity. Not that I don't care for STO, just that the novels are a damn sight better:
ST Online still has the Borg, for instance, who were all permanently wiped out in the Destiny novels.
Now it is true that Countdown takes place in the universe of ST Online. But that doesn't mean the novels have to deal with it. I've just demonstrated that the two are incompatible anyway.
You can always say that the time agents have corrected the timeline, on or off screen.

Would make for a cool direct to dvd Mini Series to show what the 24th century is like without Romulus! I would think it could lead to alot of very interesting stories.
