Immortals Trailer

Re: IMORTALS 11.11.11

Yeah, it looks like a mishmash of various Greek myths, so Wikipedia is a pretty good source for the information about them. I can't recommend a specific book, I've read a few Greek myths compilations in Russian when I was a kid, don't remember the names of the books ...

Re: IMORTALS 11.11.11

The wikipedia article for the film actually does a pretty good job of outlining the characters used in the movie and has a plot synopsis. I'd recommend using that to start.

Re: IMORTALS 11.11.11

okay did that but they really did'nt go into detail. all so I was wondering if there is a list of greek hero's during the time of the gods. I would love to see them make gilgamesh into a movie.

In principle I see nothing wrong with making a serious film about Greek mythology (I can't view the trailer on this PC, aber, so no comment there). There's no reason that it must be silly Harryhausen like antics, and the Greeks themselves were more than willing to take their mythology fairly seriously - as a point of reference check out every single Greek tragedy surviving (The Persians excepted).

And Theseus is one of the no brainers for a film adaption. Theseus, Minotaur, Labyrinth, a less-than-ideal king with the child sacrificing Minos, Theseus gets the girl (abandoning her on an island probably not Hollywood's cuppa). We also got Daedalus over here and you can throw in his him and his ill-fated son Icarus for a bit of why not. Ridiculous amounts of name recognition and really solid stories. Probably the sort of thing I'd generally prefer to see Hollywood films do, in some vague sense, if only there wasn't also a pretty big chance they'd cock it up.

...but on the other hand Holllywood's been making films about Greek history (300) and Norse mythology (Thor) provided they're based on the comic book versions, which scarcely bodes well.

I enjoyed 300 well enough as a sheer bloody minded guilty pleasure, but the film does not exist for repeat viewings. I suppose if a Theseus film is about the same level I can live with that.

I wonder what poor deity would have been assigned The Internet?
I nominate Fama, or 'Rumour'. Go check your copy of the Aeneid and you'll get the general idea.

It sounds good it on the nook? everytime I see this trailer on the big screen I want more greek history. any recomendations in greek history fiction on the nook much appreciated.

It's public domain and there's a half-billion translations out there. I'd say it almost certainly is.

It's mythology, though, rather than history. As far as that stuff goes I'd recommend the obvious (but fun) picks of the Illiad, the Odyssey, the Theogony, and the Argonautica.

It's not on the Nook sadly, but my local Wal-Mart has a book called Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes. It does contain the Theseus myth, along with Hercules, Perseus (from the Clash of the Titans movies) and a bunch of Greek and a few Norse myths. I wouldn't be surprised if it was in all of the Wal-Marts, or at least a lot of them.

I just saw the trailer. Looks very good! I'm in! I also loved the new Clash of the Titans movie. My wife and I watched it again on DVD last night.
