IMAXing????

Edwards Ontario (CA) Palace Stadium 22 & IMAX, 7pm Thursday 5/7. Seeing it in IMAX (the first time I'll've seen a non-IMAX movie on an IMAX screen). Looking forward to it, of course.

Any other Inland Empire-ians (Inland Imperialists?) planing to be there?

I don't think I'll be able to get away for long enough to go to Ontario (or to Cathedral City, about an equal distance in the opposite direction.) I'll probably have to be content with ducking out to catch the movie at a regular theater in Redlands.

Wow...this is getting strange. I use to live in DESERT HOT SPRINGS back in the 70s. My father was a deputy sherrif in DHS, and came out from the Cathedral City sherrif's department...

Oh I MISS Dillon road!!!

I wish the movie were shot for IMAX 3D!! I'm gonna see it on IMAX as well. Already got the tix.

Since I am new to IMAX..isnt the screen SQUARE in shape? What would you gain by seeing it on a square screen when its filmed in widescreen...again, I am ignorant...so please let me know..

Rob

BIG Screen. Hahah. You know, I'm honestly not sure. I saw "300" in IMAX and "Superman Returns" in IMAX-3D. It's kinda just cool seeing a movie where the image covers your entire vision.

I've been thinking of going to see it Imax, and these comments have convinced me. Particularly because the theater that I'm going to is at a furniture store. Wtf?
You want to go because it is at a furniture store?

I just think it's hilarious that a furniture store (Jordan's in Natick, MA) has an IMAX, to get people in and looking at their sofas.

Well this must be some friggin huge ass furniture store then! Bizarre!

The opening shot raped my mind on a tiny cinema screen.

On IMAX it will probably have charges filed against it.

:guffaw:

as long as there's no drop-off (from the regular screens), I'm fine. I'm watching it in IMAX on the 8th.

It would be one thing if select scenes were shot in IMAX but this whole movie was 35mm, not enough for IMAX in my opinion. I saw the Matrix Reloaded (also 35mm) in IMAX and a regular theater. The image sharpness on the IMAX screen was pretty dismal... but it was bigger.

^so do you think we should exchange our tix for the regular screens? I've already seen the movie, but this is going to be my dad's first look at this one. should I take him to the regular screening that day and go see the IMAX later?

any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm hoping the movie will be good enough for a re-see... a couple friends and I are going that friday night to see it in a regular theater, and then I have another group driving 2 hours with me so we can see it in Imax.

Ah well, I'm short-sighted, so I just won't wear my glasses and it will look normal to me.

I saw "Poseidon" and "Superman Returns" in IMAX and they both looked awesome. I didn't notice any problems with image sharpness. I think paying the extra for IMAX is worth it (for certain movies).

I'm going to see it in Detroit, where they're having the ST Exhibit at the same time. Two birds with one stone...

i would have to concede that there would certainly be variations in IMAX blowup quality. For example, the Poseidon IMAX print was derived from a 4K digital intermediate (scan of the 35mm original negative). Star Trek's IMAX prints are based on a 2K digital intermediate, which frankly is quite pathetic... practically the equivalent of a Blu-Ray disc.

Superman Returns was largely shot digitally in 1080p/24 HDCAM. I didn't see this film in theaters although the BR disc looked good, albeit a bit "glossy."
