IMAX + TREK = SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!

You sound excited and I don't want to burst your bubble but you may want to be warned of the IMAX scam going on.

Only footage shot with a IMAX camera and run on an IMAX projector is true IMAX. Not a single frame of ST was filmed with an IMAX camera!

The scam is, they do a little magic with the print to make it run on the IMAX projector then tout it as IMAX when it is not. The drooling masses line up and pay full IMAX price for an experience which is not IMAX.

The only real benefits of seeing it in IMAX is "more comfortable seating", (I disagree with that) a better sound system than regular theaters, (true) and bragging rights as long as those you brag to aren't aware of the above facts. From an informed POV, you are being taken advantage of.

Nothing wrong with that though, as long as you know and accept it.

I would submit that one of the benefits of seeing it at an IMAX theater is that it's 6 STORIES TALL! Whether they used the film and cameras or not, it's still pretty f'ing huge. HUGE!

That's all I have to say about that.

you've got a point there.

Kirk and Spock were in Star Wars?

oh you know what i mean. sometimes people muck stuff up when they look at things from another angle. and sometimes people are very successful. i've got all my chips in the latter pile, but heck, when someone has a point, i like to acknowledge it.

:D

I look at the glass half full too... Can't wait for a report from the Sydney month-in-advance opening...!

I'm watching on IMAX in Manchester, not gone to IMAX before so I am looking forward to it. I am aware it wasn't shot with an IMAX camera but I think regardless of that it will still look great on the huuuuuuge IMAX screen. Can't wait!!

My Friends and I have recently seen two action movies (Dark Knight and Watchmen) on an Imax screen. It was like a tennis match because I couldn't take in the whole screen at once. When May 8th rolls around, I'm seeing STXI at a regular theater first.

I was reading this thread and thinking the same thing. I've seen a few IMAX movies...only the short ones like they show at Liberty Science Center and stuff...and it really hurts the eyes. I don't want to imagine how dizzy I'd be after 2 hours of Trek. While a 6 story Enterprise would be nice, I would rather be in a THX certified "regular" theatre.

Star Trek will not fill the entire screen, ever. It wasn't filmed in IMAX. It won't be much bigger than on a regular screen and that is my point, you'll be paying full screen price but not getting a full screen.

Watch carefully and see, black bars will be at the top and bottom of the screen.

all right i have seen true imax films and other films run in the imax threate.
and while the true imax made film experience is better there is still something fun about watching a film on that huge screen.

and how well it looks depends on just how crisp the print is.
i have seen some crappy ones when the got blown up to such a big size and others that looked great.
