And I would definitely give I Want To Believe a chance. Some people like it, some don't. I think it gave a better send off to the characters of Mulder and Scully than the series finale did, even though the movie had nothing to do with the mythology.

I think that was one of the key problems. It didn't touch the mythology

I agree that season 9 is a bit of a come down from the previous eight (and yes, I think season 8 is fantastic), but there are some good episodes. I like '4-D', 'Audrey Pauley', 'Improbable', 'William' and 'Release'. It's just a shame 'The Truth' didn't live up to it's title.

I wouldn't exactly say the mytharc is a mess, as mentioned by somebody above, it's just unfinished. Maybe if the rumored third movie gets made, it can draw some conclusions with the main storyline.
