You can do it! I spent my whole life not exercising. Then in about 2006 I decided to do 30 minutes of push up and other exercises.
Then, after gaining 20+ pounds in a short amount of time, I started doing walking. One to three miles every day. That wasnt' cutting it, so I started adding running. Turned out being fat (the heaviest in my life) and no previous regular attempts, and having mild, mild asthma, I could only run like 50 steps. As you can imagine, that's not much (considering a mile has about 2,000).
I steadily increased the running and walking, varying the amount of miles per day.
I got to the point where I was running 125 steps six times a miles, then a few weeks ago I thought I could run half a mile, and I did. So I started running half a mile each mile, then a week ago I thought I could run a whole mile, and I did, then tried extra miles each day, to now with a record of fives consecutive, non-stop miles So now I run 6.5 to 7 miles of those 8, every single day. If I miss a day because of rain, I make it up by doing an extra mile each day until made up. One and-a-half hours is what is takes for eight miles. This is after I do one and-a-half hours of fairly vigerous peddling on a stationary exercise bike, that came after doing ten minute of fairly intense weight lifting.
Anyway, I can run five miles straight, have pretty noticably big arm mucles, big leg mucles, and I've lost 50 pounds, so ... that was all in a year. If I can do it, so can you! Shit, there's this skinny blond girl who comes to the track once or twice a week, who runs like a fucking Olmpic gold medalist, for about three miles, and disappears; I don't know where she gets the energy. Anyway, you could reach her level -- you never know. Try. It may start out slow, like I described my adventure (which includes dog-tired days of effort, and side hirting), but it can be done.
