I'm ready to dump Directv this year.

I can't believe how much that cost to pay all the month with this outrageous price! Almost feeling like they're sucking the money out of my pocket.

So I decided that it's time to dump Directv to replace Dish Network this year. Mind you, I'm HD-junkie, because I love to view my favorite shows in HD. Earlier today, I had heartfelt discussion with this woman who's working with Dish Network. She told me that Dish Network is now better with more advanced technology that they've upgraded so far.

I told her that last time I tried Dish Network out more than three to four years ago, it wouldn't let me to record my favorite shows in HD from that HD DVR receiver. She told me not to worry about it. I'm starting to believe that I should give them the second chance to convince me that I can keep dish network for the longer term of this.

I hope that I won't have any issue with Dish Network again this year. So do you have your issue with Dish Network as of late?

What is you're issue with DirecTV's prices, I mean they are not that high compared to cable TV.

We had both DirecTV and Dish Network's HD services simultaneously for a time not long ago. There's nothing wrong, great service, with Dish but they don't offer NFL Sunday ticket so we went with DirecTV.

Then how do you survive through this without any tv services in your new apartment?

I used to have DishNetwork I thought it was ok at the time but TV was a lot better 10 years ago now all the channels are, is generic entertainment channels dominated by crappy reality shows just look at what happened to Tech TV when they murdered it and turned it into G4.

Because Netflix has TV shows on demand to watch over the internet, or like me, with a Roku box on your TV. The quality is very good, and you can get whole seasons of a show at a time. I had it when I lived in our previous apartment, because there were no cable connections anywhere near my room.

I'm a firm believer of what RoJo suggested. Cut them off and go with "alternate means" of entertainment media.

Where I live, one has to get either cable or satellite because the mountains block free TV.

I tried to go with DirectTV, which the tenant before me had had. However, it turned out that his rooftop dish had never been secured properly. In three service calls DT could never get it together for me. After that experience, I'd be a better CSR than any of the people I dealt with.

I went with DISH Network, which has been OK. I don't mind that the basic package has fewer channels, because I don't watch a lot of TV anyway. Nor do I want to turn into a couch potato.

Well, that's what I mean. For the price you pay, you get seriously shafted. For a couple of hundred channels (75% of them sports, shopping and news), you pay enough to buy a used car in about 12 months.

...but the problem is, I'm a baseball fanatic, so I have to have at least one. And cable seems like the least pain in the ass in that regard.

My Dad has Directv and has had it for many years. However, it's getting to the point now where he's seriously thinking about switching over to Dish Network because of all the updating problems with Directv. The damn thing takes a long time to upload, plus sometimes you can't change the channels fast enough for the box and it starts making noises at you. But I guess Dad is keeping it for now since it's hard to afford Dish Network at the moment.

Before switching call DTV and ask to speak to customer retention... they will meet and beat any deal from Dish or Cable to keep you. If your on Dish, do the same.

You must ask for Customer Retention, the normal service reps can't cut you the deals.

But yeah, once you get the package with good channels, add in HDTV and DVR, a couple receivers, taxes, fees, etc - it gets damn costly fast.

I survive by doing other things. The only shows I have watched on TV in the last few years are "Battlestar Galactica" and "Chuck." BSG is over, and Chuck is on a break. When it comes back, I will watch it on Hulu.

I just have better things to do with my time than watch TV all day. With Netflix, I can decide what show I want to watch, and they send me the whole season on DVD, and I can watch it whenever it's convenient for me.

Do you have Superfan? If you tell DirecTV before the season that you can't afford both Superfan and Sunday Ticket so you're going to cancel, they'll hook you up with it for free. I haven't paid for it the past two years. Also, Supercast for the computer is fantastic as well if you can't be in front of your tv on Sunday for whatever reason

I'll keep that in mind... we have scored free stuff in the past after threatening to cancel. We were going to have to pay for three new HD DVRs which we recieved at no charge after expressing discontent on the phone.
