I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole series)

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

FWIW, I've gone through the first half of the series in just the past couple of weeks. They're mostly very quick reads. Frankly, if you're going to spend five minutes going through a summary of each story, you might as well spend the whole 30 - 45 minutes it would take you to read the actual story. I think that seeing that there are 66 of them might be off-putting, but I wouldn't let that stop you from tackling them.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

^ Actually, there are 74 of them -- 66 in the S.C.E. seriers and then eight more in the relaunched Corps of Engineers series before the plug was pulled.

(It's 76 if you count "Field Expediency" in Tales of the Dominion War and "An Easy Fast" in Tales from the Captain's Table....)

So, let's see...

Ryan wants 5 to 6 paragraphs of summary per story, at an average of 40 words per graf; we'll round that 250 words per story. Times 74 stories. That's roughly 18,500 words.

Send me a check for $3,000 and maybe I'll humor this request.

I guess I'll slip in my own question since we are talking about SCE.

I've never read any of them but was thinking of reading cold fusion because im reading DS9-R. Will I be completely lost since I won't know these characters and should wait till I have time to start from the beginning or just read it anyways?

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

^ Nah, if you just pick up Cold Fusion, you'll be fine. Honestly, the only SCE stories that shouldn't be read without reading a previous one are the second parts of the two-parters, for obvious reasons. :) But I endeavored to make the stories user-friendly....

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

Cold Fusion is one of the first few anyway.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

Shit happens. it gets fixed. the end.

No, no no! You pros just keep creating new stories/novels-I'll write his paragraphs for him at a dollar a word and cut y'all in for 70c off the dollar. Why waste talent on such an inane task?

KRAD-um, no offense, but you apologized to him? I'm very sorry about your recent bout with insanity and I hope you recover soon.

There are certainly many worse things in the world than being too nice or polite. I mean, I didn't agree with the original poster either, but if somebody decides that they were rude and apologized for it, why should that be a problem? Better to err on the the side of goodwill toward your fellow man, isn't it?
I say don't listen to the naysayers, KRAD. We can always use more kindness on this board. :bolian:

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

RookieBatman-it was a bit of kidding. Kindness is always appreciated, anywhere in life and KRAD seems to be a thoughtful, talented........teddy bear. I would NEVER intentionally insult him.:techman: As for disagreeing with the OP:

Some people live with a world view I literally can't wrap my mind around. I can understand the underlying motivations of a jealous husband killing his wife in a fit of rage, a person embezzling funds at work or even a punk kid stealing a car. I don't agree with them but I can trace the thought process that led to those decisions/actions. What the OP asked for (and his reasons for making the request) just left me sitting here, jaw open, completely mystified. Then the anger at the perceived "rudeness", well, ok, I guess. My initial reaction was along the lines of "What did you expect with that completely ... off-kilter... request?" Although "off-kilter" wasn't the phrase that ran through my mind.;)

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

Since we're all having fun jumping on the bandwagon, I might as well stick my two cents in. I actually can understand the motivations of the original poster. OK, maybe asking for 4-5 paragraphs per book was a bit much, but that said, there are tons of movies I know I would not be able to sit through, particularly horror movies because they give me nightmares, but sometimes I just kind of want to know what happened. For instance, I thought the first Scream movie was pretty damn clever, but it still was a little too intense for me. So I looked at moviespoilers.com to find out what happened in #s 2 and 3. And I do that regularly with movies I just know I'm not likely to get to, but I'd like to know what the fuss is about.

Now, I'm not suggesting that S.C.E. gives anybody nightmares! ;) But I'm sure we've all asked things or posed questions without thinking through all the implications and connotations. Sometimes I am the original Queen of Foot-in-Mouth-Land. Can we maybe let this poster off the hook now?

And I think KRAD was darn classy for apologizing, even though I'm sure most of us, me included, didn't think he needed to. But it was still a nice thing to do.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

He was classy and as for the OP-I'm done. Any hooks left are of his own making.

You're the Queen of Foot-In-Mouth-Land? Then I must bow down, for I am surely your most loyal subject.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

So I looked at moviespoilers.com to find out what happened in #s 2 and 3.

I think this is a key point in explaining the OP's mentality. The very fact that there is a moviespoilers.com illuminates just how much our modern internet culture is used to having a full description somewhere on the internet. As a Stargate fan, I can tell you that there's a website that has pretty complete explanations of every episode (including the resolution), and I would be surprised if there wasn't one for the Trek shows. So maybe the OP thought that the fans like to do that kind of stuff.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

RB-maybe you're right. I guess I hold books to be hmmm, more sacrosanct. Above the petty common media. I'm such a snob.

Do you ever go to Memory Alpha? That has complete and total synopsis(es?) for every episode of each of the series. And yes I'm willing to admit that I have actually used them before, but mostly it was because I missed an episode that played a role in the episode I was watching or about to watch, and I've even used to Stargate wiki and Star Wars ones for the same reason. But the only reason I ever used the Star Wars was because I wanted to see if I liked what was happening and wanted to start reading them, so I only read bits and peices of info from the older books so I could jump into the current stuff.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

If the OP had restricted himself to asking "hey, is there a web-site out there that has this info?" then everything would be fine. But he didn't, he asked if someone would write it for him, which is a whole different level of question.

Re: I'm never going to get around to SCE...(spoilers for the whole ser

Oh, I see. I thought it was simply the fact that he even wanted to information.

Nah. It was all about asking for the write-ups.
