I'm moving to JAPAN!! :)

Kancho is a very real "prank" but I've never met a JET who had this happen to them (yes I'll be there as part of the JET program). I'll also be in a VERY rural setting (my largest school has 60 kids total-- smallest has 20) and there's a lot of driving involved.

No advice from me either but a hearty congrats and good luck! Enjoy yourself. :bolian:

And don't forget us! Remember to visit often!

Haha, I'll probably spend MORE time on TrekBBS :). What I wish we could bring back is TrekIRC.... :( --- anybody know of any Star Trek chatrooms these days?

I've had it happen. Well, the kids tried. They were unsuccessful.

I'll be interested in your experiences. I've often thought about doing something similar, but people have told me to go through one of the private companies instead of JET.

I went through a private company and I am glad that I did. I live in a relatively populated area (Koshigaya) and can walk to both of my schools, which are both fairly large (800 and 600 kids respectively). Plus I can get to Tokyo in less than an hour on the trains, and go there frequently. I'm pretty happy with my experience here so far.

* waves to Goji * :D

Hope you have a fun time, Danoz. :)

^ "Butt poking thing"? Never heard of it. And I was never poked in Japan - the Japanese are not very physical, as a rule. The only time they ever touch anyone they are not really familiar with is on the Tokyo metro, where they don't have a choice. And then it would be really hard to poke someone, considering in many instances you are pushed in so tight that you cannot move your arms from your sides. :lol:

There are definitely exceptions though. The kids where I teach, well I should say the girls are extremely grabby. They also love to just poke me and run away giggling. One has repeatedly tried to jump onto my back, and many others love to reach and try and grab my hair. The boys, for whatever reason, seem to respect the notion of personal space (except for one of the vice principals, but that guy is just weird), but the girls... oh lord are they trouble, probably because they know they can get away with more.

i've been to Tokyo, Japan several times (twice this year thus far) and i love the city, country and the people. it's definitely an overwhelmingly awesome place.

That sounds nice. My closet commute to a major city is a couple hours to Osaka. I'm pretty happy to JET so far (especially their help with all the setup costs/flight and support network).
