I'm in the mood for Seska!

Moderator magic, I guess.
Who doesn't like talking about Seska? it's been awhile since we've had a thread on her.

People get so hung up on old threads. Now, it is a board directive not to bump ancient threads. A mod may shut it down using their discretion. But if someone, especially a newbie, takes the time to search out a topic and respond in good faith I personally think that discussion should continue without bringing my mod hammer down. I have the ability to break out the new discussion from the old to allow that to happen, without making a huge deal out of it, as long as it doesn't become a habit. So much power...

I didn't look at the date of that old thread before replying. I really thought it was recent, and that I was answering a question someone was currently waiting on answers for. I could've sworn the thread wasn't that many pages down the line, but maybe I browsed further than I thought. In any case I apologize for breaking the rules.

I hope this question doesn't come off as rude. But if we're not supposed to respond to older threads, then why are old threads left open for replies? On some other sites, a thread is automatically closed after going a month with no activity. Wouldn't that save the moderators a lot of trouble?

I like having five, ten and even fifteen year-old threads around; not only is the sense of continuity welcome and not only do they cut down on thread repetition, but you also get a sort of "time capsule" that shows a(n admittedly narrow) glimpse into the past...a taste of the zeitgeist.

I feel similarly, and really don't understand the reasoning behind baring people from picking old threads back up. But if the site has decided that they don't want anyone replying to a thread, then it doesn't make sense to e that they still leave the thread opened.

If they got back to the Alpha Quadrant quickly, Seska must have either been hoping to escape and rejoin the Maquis or not break her cover to the other Maquis and be given back to the Cardassian authorities in a spy swap then be able to go undercover again because Starfleet would have realised she was a spy pretty quickly. Seska could have admitted to Janeway that she was a spy very early on and I don't think that would have gone badly for Seska.

Basically she could have been in the same boat as Tom and Tuvok - also 'traitors' to the Maquis. The Maquis crew might have had a beef with her but not the Federation crew (even though they don't necessarily like Cardassians).

It could have been more interesting had the Traitor turned out to be someone from impeccable Starfleet stock (descended from a long line of Starfleet officers, but of course not dear Tom).

Seska was the best antagonist on Voyager, and the idea that she was “too tied” to the disappointing Kazon is ridiculous. If anything, she elevated the Kazon with her presence and made them tolerable in their time as the main antagonists, and I can think of a strong story of her running ahead of Voyager to turn others against them.

Moreover, she could offer real stories on consequence - could the crew leave her behind? Would they be caring for her in the brig for seventy years? Could she even see value in remaining with Voyager as they head home? So much potential, wasted with an underwhelming death.

Like above she got compared to Tasha Yar’s death, but frankly, Tasha had the more dignified departure, dying like a firefighter, trying to rescue people, even if it was a death done for the amusement of Armus. Seska died from a damn exploding console!

I'm wondering how Kazon docs were able to restore her Cardassian appearance at all. They don't seem like a particularly medically advanced people.
