"I'm afraid he's suffering from brain damage"

I'm currently rewatching The X-files after picking up the box set cheaply. As I'm tending to watch the episodes one after the other, I'm struck by the amount of head injuries that Mulder sustains. He's constantly lying in a heap with blooding pouring out of his head.

This got me wondering - which TV characters should suffer from brain damage or some other permanent injury due to repeated blows to the head - is there a TV Character out there who gets knocked up over the head more than Mulder (maybe Scully)?

I think Giles from BtVS got whacked a fair bit. There's even a funny bit in one episode after Cordelia finds him knocked out.

Cordelia: I came over here to tell Buffy to stop this craziness and found you all unconscious. Again. How many times have been knocked out now anyway? I swear, one of these times you're gonna wake up in a coma.
Giles: Wake up in a c...oh, never mind.

Buffy herself should look out for early warning signs of pugilistic dementia too, even with her super-healing. ;)

Manuel. :p

There's one episode of Blakes 7 (Power) where Avon gets conked on the head and knocked unconcious about three times!

I don't know.. but every main character in every book ever has to be knocked unconscious at least once. Authors love to finish chapters with "and that was the last thing he saw before his world went black."

 I love his reaction in that scene.

Ben Linus on Lost comes to mind.

Interesting note: the convention of the "lights out" on TV is completely unrealistic. Most of the time people who suffer that kind of head injury are going to have long-term damage, or might not wake up at all. Cracked covered this in one of their articles but I can't find it at the moment.

Yeah, even boxers etc don't get knocked out like people on tv constantly do, they usually stand up (somewhat) after a couple moments again. Not in a way that they could go on fighting, but they are conscious again at least. If they don't show signs of consciousness quickly, it's very very serious and they are brought to the hospital ASAP.

btw I think this is the article you meant. My google is strong today. ;)

Pretty much the entire cast past and present on Smallville.

At first I thought "Oh no, not another topic about Charlie Sheen".

However this is a different topic, I like it.

All I can think of, and shocked no one said, is John on Farscape! I mean really! The amount of crap they did to his head he should really be dead.
