I'm addicted.

It's not Christmas without a tin of Quality Street

I miss some of the older variants though - the old red-wrapper strawberry choc was much better than the new one, and I miss the original brazil nut purple one. The lack of a coffee creme is just shocking. But I don't miss the peanut blue-wrappers. And I'm sure I lost a milk tooth or two a little early to the sticky, chewy ravages of the yellow toffee pennies!

If they ever fuck with the green triangle, I'm boycotting them though. :D

When I was a child, my dad would make the quality streets accessible to us about 3 days before the 25th, and it always felt like the beginning of christmas to me on that night.

I haven't had them for over 5 years though, since I don't eat dairy food anymore. It's one of the few things I miss.

I think the original strawberries and the caramel cups were my favourite, although if we didn't get a green triangle that first night, they'd mysteriously be all gone the next morning.

The toffee pennies were reserved for our dog. Most treats he'd swallow without tasting, but these things would stick to his palate, and he'd be clacking his chops for a good five minutes with them. Then half an hour later, he'd suddenly start up again, and he'd give a big sigh. Obviously it was still stuck there

Seriously, I can't eat enough of these.

As a special "pre-Christmas" present my mom gave me a smallish tin full of my favorite candy item ever.

White-Chocolate Covered Pretzels. Ohhhhhh-hohoho man!

She didn't buy them off some guy named Brodie, did she? ;)
:guffaw:

You know what chocolates I love the most? Ferrero Rochers. I could NEVER have too many of those...
Snap, I love those things, unfortuantly I'm trying to cut down on my sugar this crimbo (first filling) but if anybody puts a try in front of me (as their prone to do for a pressie) then they will still be gone in a flash

The ones with the "darker"-coloured wrapping papers are my favourites. But I don't miss the coffee cremes (a.k.a. The Last Ones Left In The Tin™).

For me, Christmas isn't so without a good stick of Toblerone. :bolian:

I think this is one case where I share many similarities with your erstwhile pet.

I can't understand a tin of Quality Street without coffee cremes.

When DID they switch over to the new variants anyway? It must be a few years ago now. I vaguely remember the shock of disappointment when biting gingerly into one of the purple ones, fearful of hitting the hard brazil nut, and instead sliding easily into a gooey caramelly mess with a mere pathetic hazelnut in the middle instead.

That was the day that Christmas REALLY died. :(

Toblerone is for life, not just for Christmas.

I wonder what the other similarities are? ;)

I never remembered when the purple ones had the brazil nut, me. For me they were always hazelnut. But the caramel has changed, I think. Or maybe I'm thinking about Roses. I don't know.

Indeed. It's the little nougat pieces that always does it for me. :D

However, this year I have developed a liking for those dusted chocolate truffles from Aldi. :bolian:

You'd know it if you did remember. The very first time I ate a purple one, I almost cracked a tooth on the brazil nut.

I bought a giant Toblerone today, inspired by this thread. :D

I've never been in an Aldi. Someone at work brought in some nice Lebkuchen from them the other day though. Maybe I should see what else they have.

I've just come back from the shops, having bought two.

Quite a few surprises there, in fact, in these no-frills supermarkets.

For a couple of years I lived next to a Lidl. We developed a game - who can buy the best item. Best was loosely defined: strangest or least healthy were other potential adjectives.

This led to some rather unpleasant canned octopus. But it also meant for some great cakes and chocolate. Defintely the forte of the Lidl and Aldi stores. Great snacks.

If the Aldi in the UK is in any way related to the Aldi here in the US, I agree with you. Nice, low prices, and somewhat odd finds occasionally. My favorite item from Aldi are sausages stuffed with Apple and Gouda cheese. Haven't seen them in a while though.

My favorite Christmas treat are those little sugar/peanutbutter cookies with a Hershey
s kiss in the middle. They're a Christmas specific treat in my family, so we don't bake them any other time than December. :(
