IJ: KotCS (Indy movie) out today

^ You caught me. I am indeed from the future.

You think the internet geeks are squealing now? Just wait... Indy and Mutt meet Hammer Horror in 1960's Europe.

You heard it here first. ;)

Well, I got off work today and started viewing the special features. Haven't touched the second disc yet (no time tonight) but the feautures on the 1st disc are great. There's a ton of production footage from the filming. It was really cool to see Ford rigged up performing the "missed whip swing into the truck" or practicing with his whip.

Good interviews too, although most of it is fairly common knowledge if you're a fan. some good bits though.

Can't wait to get to the 2nd disc

This may be one of those movies that gets a bit better the 2nd time. But I know what we're dealing with so I know it can only get so much better...I mean, heck, there're still aliens in it right? :(

The director's cut has Mutt referring to The Pattern and Indy saying "the truth is out there."

I actually liked it less after viewing the film a second time... I watched it with a friend last night who got the film on BluRay. I really need to get myself a BluRay player. I can't justify buying any new films on regular DVD, I'd feel like I was missing out.

God bless anyone who enjoys the film, but I think it's absolute garbage. It's worse than the Star Wars prequels, at least those films have some action scenes I can turn my brain off for and just enjoy the visuals. Crystal Skull is a mundane, ugly film.

The only thing I like about the film are some of Harrison Ford's nuances as Indy. He's good. Spielberg and Lucas dropped the ball.

Hopefully, I'll be able to rent it today. Unfortunately, I won't be able to buy it until later in the month.

Indy 5 was a lot of fun.

Indy 5? What am I missing? I thought this was the fourth film.

As for the OP's question, I got mine yesterday, and there are no commentaries, only trailers, strangely marked trailer 2, and trailer 3. Trailer 1, whatever it is, is not there. There are also several documentaries on the making of the movie, and photo galleries.

Well, to be fair, they had to work REALLY hard to top The Last Crusade, and in that regard, yes, they failed. But they also had to top The Temple of Doom, a feat, not at all hard, since it was not only the absolute worst Indy movie, but one of the worst films ever made, and in THAT regard, they succeded brilliantly.

Definately. For #5 Indiana Jones needs to battle vampires.

Indiana Jones and the Curse of Dracula.

Christopher Lee might still be kicking when they make it.

Toss in Kate Capshaw as Willie Scott again, so instead of fun adventure we can have the petty bickering and awkward dialouge moments that ruined the previous two films. :techman:

ok, an update for those who haven't gotten the dvd yet but are interested.

The production diary on the 2nd disc is really in depth, running about and hour and 20 minutes. It features some alternate takes if you pay attention, and lots of behind the scenes on how the stunt work was accomplished and so on.

There's also the typical Ben Burtt and John Williams piece, praising Williams like a god. Ben Burtt is always interesting when he's showing how he creates the sounds. The ants were done by pouring cornfeed out of a bucket, which was mixed with breaking eggshells and some speed up human voices.

One of the coolest features in my opinion are the cgi story board animations. These were done on the computer with Speilberg's assistance in the planning stages. What gets me is how much BETTER many of the shots are then what ended up in the film. They're a bit more violent and are really worth watching.

There's still some features on the make-up and props I haven't watched yet.

I still don't get this. I love the Temple of Doom!

You liked the weird voodoo storyline, and two hours of Willie Scott screaming?

^

I agree. It's great precisely because it does drift from the formula. I wish the sequels had continued to be so original. I really dug the Thugee villians and the darker tone as well.

She was a bit annoying, but I loved the story. I thought it was fun.

Kalimaaaaaaaaaaa!

*rips out your heart*

Same here. It's a great funhouse ride, with lots of funny dialogue and one thrilling action scene after another.

As far as I'm concerned, Indy 4 didn't have anything HALF as good as the opening night club scene, or the raft escape, or the spike room scene, or the Thuggee fight, or the mine car chase, or the rope bridge scene...

I think I liked the film better than you, but I quite agree with this statement. The flaws in the film are so modern George Lucas, and I wonder if Spielberg played a bit of a yes-man to this, but the best parts are watching Harrison Ford have so much fun just being Indy again. He makes the film good.

I don't mind most of the new characters either, though I wasn't all that impressed with Cate Blanchett's villain.

I have to concur.

When Harrison Ford appeared as the 50 year old Indy in the 1992 "Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" episode "Mystery of the Blues," he was the one who clearly shined. True, the episode itself wasn't all that great, but it was good seeing Ford as Indy again...beard, and clarinet, and fedora, and all.
