II thru VII uniforms....what would you change?

I always liked the design of the uniforms, but I would have done them in a dark emerald green. As it was, it made it seem like they had suddenly made everyone a redshirt!:lol:

What would you have done?

I would have made the "bomber jacket" version (first seen in Star Trek III) the standard officer's duty uniform and the actual belted wraparound jacket version the formal uniform for both officers and enlisted. I would have kept the colors the same.

I would have had something more like TOS underneath the heavy jackets, which would only be for formal occasions, not day-to-day ship duty.

And changed the colour. They were space mounties!!

I would have kept the colour scheme from the tv series. Command in yellow/ gold, science in blue and engineering/ security in red.

And, to paraphrase Jadzia Dax, I'd have women wearing less!

Was that also the one Kirk is wearing for parts of TFF? If so I agree, I always liked that version, and felt it should have been used more.

I love those uniforms, but I would have done something about the weird pants being tucked into their boots situation they had going on.

Yeah, that's the one. I think it was meant to be a casual uniform for senior officers.

Yep! :)

Never was a fan of those uniforms. That flap hanging open always bothered me. What's it supposed to be, a built-in dinner napkin? :scream:

I wouldn't change a thing. Those are my all-time favorite Trek uniforms. Yes, they look more like a dress uniform than an every day duty uniform but, then again, since when have Trek uniforms looked practical? I can see having a variation for every day duty to have in addition to the ones we saw, but I wouldn't change those at all.

I would scrap the jackets and use the shirts more like TOS, with the breast badge but with TOS-based rank stripes moved to the shoulders. Colors same as TOS but maybe more subdued. If the jackets had to be kept, I'd clean them up, eliminating the belts, shoulder and cuff straps and the contrasting trim, change the color to dark blue or blue-gray (like "The Cage") and put TOS-type rank stripes on both cuffs. And enlisted would wear the same, not that awful jumpsuit.

Not a big fan of the maroon ensemble.

I think it's supposed to remind us of something like this:

If I couldn't ditch those ugly jackets altogether, I would've had them worn only as dress uniforms; everyday fatigues would've been just the turtlenecks, like the pilot uniforms. And I would've rather seen them in deep blue instead of brick red. The belt over the jacket doesn't have much point either. (Edit: Apparently J.T.B. and I are on the same wavelength.)

Simpler insignias and rank pins too, while we're at it. I don't see the point of that oblong shape behind the arrowhead/circle.

Aww, hell, I would've kept the TMP uniforms, just with somewhat richer colors. Those uniforms had a lot of variants that made them seem far more practical and realistic than other Starfleet uniform designs, and they didn't look like something out of a historical costume drama. Maybe crossed with aspects of the Star Trek: Enterprise uniforms, like pockets and embroidered mission patches with writing on them.

I would have probably gone with some similar to in the Mass Effect game's System Alliance Military uniforms only using the trek division colors and the TOS rank braids.

While TOS Kirk obviously wore yellow (though I believe there were behind-the-scenes reasons for the color selection of the day), on the big screen I just can't imagine him wandering around in a yellow uniform.

Granted, NuTrek is probably about to do it with Chris Pine, but I don't think anyone will argue that the NuBridge also has a radically different color scheme from the original movie bridge.

Then how about green?

Actually, I like the maroons for a dress uniform. I agree that something simpler would have been better for day to day duty like some equivalent of working khakis.
