IGN's Top 100 Star Wars Characters

Han and Vader are tied for first place for me. However, there are many cool SW characters.

Hayden Christensen fouled Vader for me forever. I mean, skull-fucking the helmet fouled. Whining isn't genetic. Lucas didn't have to make Anakin a whiner just because his son was. Then that midi-chlorian spawned bastard had to violate my precious OT with his ghost.

Even with Lucas trying to wussify him in the Special Editions, Han was still a badass, so he'd be my number one choice too.

Lists like this one are going to be extremely subjective, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be done, or that IGN's list is an 'epic fail'. Of the characters on IGN's list, there are quite a few that I had never heard of, and a few that I would have personally ranked higher (Jaina and Padme are two examples), but, as the saying goes, 'to each their own'. I'm very interested to see the rest of their list, particularly which character they ranked as #1 (for me, it's Palpatine).

It's not the idea of making a list of the best Star wars characters that people object to, it's making a list so large that you get into obscure characters that had little impact or weight. You can include all the main characters without any trouble, so it's not like you have to make any really difficult choices. If you made a list of the top twenty and left off someone significant, that would generate some controversy (even if it's nerd controversy) and make it more challenging.

Plus, the whole format of the list sucks, like I said before. Which is why I say to this list:

Was kind of disappointed not to see the "There's too many of them!" guy featured. Has one of the most memorable lines in ROTJ!

Just finished perusing their list, and while I liked it overall, I personally would've ranked some of the characters higher (for example, I would've put Jacen closer to the Top 10, and would've put Palpatine IN the Top 10 [he deserved the #1 spot, IMO]), and even included some characters that they missed; with all of that said, though, I'm not really knocking the list because I realize that A) lists like this are EXTREMELY subjective and B) in a universe as vast as that "galaxy far, far, away", there are bound to be characters left out.

A list of the top 100 Star Wars characters that doesn't include Jar Jar. Seems like that alone is justification for the list. Personally I would have included fewer background characters from the movies and a few more central characters from the EU. But hey if I'm really that concerned I can make own list. Jar Jar still wouldn't make the cut.

Kal Skirata
Corran Horn
Ordo
Fi
Atin
Darman
Niner
Boss
Sev
Fixer
Scorch
Walon Vau
Barden Jusik
Etain Tur-Mukan
Garik 'Face' Loran
Ton Phanan

ought to be on the list some place. defintely the first two.

I've seen all the movies (even the stupid Ewoks TV movies), watched the early cartoons and the Holiday Special and the two Clone Wars series, played many of the games, bought a lot of the reference and RPG books, and read almost all of the main novel series until 'Legacy of the Force' turned me off, and I only recognize a few of those characters.

The list becomes entirely pointless if you get into characters so obscure they're hardly recognizable to even some non-casual fans without having to look them up. Only a few of those are recognizable enough to be worthy of inclusion, IMO.

That's kind of meh list.

I agree that Palpatine needs to be higher. As much of a Revan fan as I am, I know there's no way he should be ahead of ol' Sidious.

There's also no way Thrawn belongs in the top ten. I've always found him to be really overrated. The guy was a product of convenient contrivance and Zahn's inability to differentiate between strategy and tactics. One minute he would display this almost (sometimes unbelievable) God-like omniscience and awareness, and the next act like a total dolt and be totally thwarted--only to turn around and pull another uber magical rabbit out of his hat.

I don't mind if they booted The Emperor and C-3PO out of the top ten but Artoo should have been #1, especially if they considered Anakin and Darth the same character, which would have dragged down the average something fierce! :rommie:

Not the two I read. I think there's a section of fandom that really likes all her work, and a section that really hates all her work. There's no middle ground :D

I think most of the people that dislike Tarviss dislike her because of how her Legacy of the Force book focused waaay too much on Boba Fett and not enough on the main characters. The woman obviously loves writing the character. If they had given her a Boba Fett trilogy to write instead, people wouldn't have such an extreme reaction to her.

That, and she's absolutely terrible at maintaining continuity between her books and other authors' work. And she didn't understand the tone of Star Wars at all.

Terrible choice for a round robin project focusing on the wider world of Star Wars. They should have just kept her in her own little Mando corner where she wouldn't do any harm.

Does she put a lot of Mando stuff in the Commando novels? Because if she does I think I'll keep on avoiding them. I like Boba Fett but don't really care for the Mando stuff. I find it boring.
