If you weren't the gender that you are now....

Zulu Romeo

World Famous Starship Captain
Admiral
... what would your name have been?

This stemmed from a conversation I heard on the radio today (bonus points to whoever can guess what I was listening to today :)) about what our name would be if someone wasn't the other gender to what they were, i.e. if one was a man, what their female name might have been, and vice versa.

I even asked my parents today about what my name would have been if I was born a female instead of a male. It was.... interesting.

So, what would you have been called? And if you didn't like that name, what sould your name be if you were a different sex?

(Incidentally I would have been called Mary. :guffaw:)

My names would have been Richie Harold. They are the names that my parents gave my brother who was born three years after me.

Richie (his name is Richie not Richard) was after Ruchie Benaud, the Australian cricketer. Harold was my Dad's middle name.

I never had any girls but the name I had picked out for a girl was Jannah.

My parents told me they never decided on a girls name had I not been a boy. They were trying to decide between 2 boys names.

Don't know, don't want to know and I don't have a clue what I would want to be called if I was a girl.

I had this discussion with my mom several years ago. If I was born female, my name would have been Danielle, if either of my younger brothers had been female they would have been Danielle. I guess my parents really liked that name.

Immanuel, after the piece in the Christmas Oratorio by Bach, "Immanuel, Du schönes Wort...". So, basically, I would have been named after Jesus.

I'm told I was named after NHL player/coach Brian Sutter so I don't think female names were given much consideration.

I was born in 1966 and before I was born the doctor guessed at my sex and told my mother I was going to be a girl so she went out and bought all girl stuff and was going to name me Rachel, just because she liked that name.

Well out I popped and took everybody by surprise when they saw I was a boy. The sad thing about it is my mother was too cheap to buy boy stuff so she dressed me up in pink girl stuff she had already bought until I was 1 year old. She has all kinds of photos of me crawling around the house in pretty little pink one pieces.

One of the alternatives would have been "Sofia" which is a name that's been in the family for a bit. But odds are I would not have been called that as a first name, seeing as I was first to be called "Jan" after my dads uncle, but they didn't think I looked the name when I was born and was thus named "Torbjörn".

My names would have been "Lucas Alexander."

I like that a lot more than the names I do have, and if I have a son--as long as that blends with the last name I take, I'd like to suggest that name.

If I were born a girl, my name would have been Manuela.

Which is surprisingly normal, considering the wacky name my parents came up with me being a boy. :shifty:

If I had been born a girl, my parents would have named me Renee.

Eh, my name is pretty big on theology, too. Given my staunch atheism, it makes me giggle every time I think about the actual meaning.

This would explain so many things...

I think my mother was considering Nathanial, if I'd been a boy.
Very cool name for a boy. It has an old-fashionate quality to it.
