The TIE Advanced. Shields, hyperdrive, and very rare.

Also, the original armored B-Wing was seen on The Clone Wars recently.

There were B-Wings in the Clone Wars?

Man, if they look almost exactly the same, I guess we can assume the Republic dissasembled them all when it became the Empire, and Ackbar shoved the blueprints up his butt.

I think the A-wing didn't have an astromech but it could hyperjump. It just had to rely on preprogrammmed jumps instead of recalcs on the fly. I want to say Ackbar helped design the B-wing and maybe ... Madine helped with the A-wing? My nerd-fu used to be stronger and I don't feel like hunting through wookiepedia. I'm sure someone else will soon enough.

A-Wings had hyperdrive, as die almost all Rebel and NR designed starfighters.

You don't need an astromech to go to hyperspace. Ships have nav computers to do all that kind of stuff.

How about for absolute worst fighter? Like, I'd rather take my chances EVA bad.

I nominate the ridiculous Corralskipper from New Jedi Order. No, biowank control of on-demand quantum singularities in a living rock-ship spitting lava balls is not cool and not Star Wars. It is stupid. Crank 2 stupid.
I'd go for the TIE fighter, simply because while it has a bit of speed and agility, it is a death trap. No shields, no hyperdrive, not very well armed and you have a very limited line of sight thanks to the huge panels and the you can only really look straight ahead. I would never fly one. I wouldn't even walk near one unless my will was up-to-date.

Are you sure? You're not thinking of the Y-Wing are you?

Most SW ships are flying bricks, sometimes with some wing-like shapes but few would even make it off the ground without the help of magical force fields or whatever. I don't think the aerodynamics of the craft play into their technology much.

2 way tie: X-wing or B-wing. The B-wing has the guns, but the X-wing has the astromech and the speed.

I apologize. I did mean the Y-Wing (I had been reading the B-Wing Page at the time and it was fairly late at night).

As much as the retconning would have been annoying it would almost be worth it if they included showing Ackbar in the cartoon.

tehy do in the X-Wing novels. TIEs frequently fall foul of aerodynamics in atmospheric battles with X-Wings or even other TIEs...
