If you were Janeway and could pick one additional crewmember from the other series...

Garak. He would violate Janeway's trust the first chance he got, take control of the ship, and find a way home no matter the consequences. While hemming a pair of trousers and getting in a few cutting insults.

I don't know if he could get away with that, especially against a natural born con artist like Janeway.

One would think Reg Barclay would be welcomed.

Data as operations officer would be amazing, really valuable in knowledge, skills, adaptability as well as friendliness and loyalty. And yeah, most likely to survive.

Or Nick Locarno, just to confuse the hell out of everyone.

After considering this for a long time, I finally came up with Garak myself but you did beat me to it.

I think that he's the only character who would come up with something we didn't already have had in Voyager.

My first choice was Quark who is an amazing character but we already have Neelix as some sort of comic guy.

Therefore I went for my second favorite DS9 character which is Garak.

My third choice was Ezri dax but we already have Kes.

As for TNG and TOS, I love those series, they have great characters but I don't think that any of them would improve Voyager in any way.

Nick Locarno could have been great for one episode or so but having two Tom Paris on the ship would be too much in the long run.

Data first popped into mind. He would be a valuable asset in OPS (and almost any department really), and we all know he would survive the caretaker's pull into the Delta Quadrant.

I wouldnt pick any of the other series First, Medical, or CONN officers simply because they would not survive the trip to the Delta Quadrant, assuming all other conditions aside from the individual's identity whose being replaced is different.

Remember, Janeway was only planning on going in the badlands to find Tuvok and the Maquis ship he infilitrated. So if Janeway was preparing for that mission, then I think Ro Laren would be an interesting choice because of her past with the Cardassians and the Maquis Ro would be a good presence for Starfleet to have if Voyager ever caught up to the Maquis ship.

Lt. Paul Stamets

The moment Janeway blew up the Caretaker's array, Stamets can go to work dusting off his spore drive concept and BAM! back in the Alpha Quadrant in time for brunch! (Well, maybe not THIS universe's AQ, or even brunch on the same day or week or month, but they'd be home-ish ;) )

Dr. Phlox was one of the best things about Enterprise. Not a bad pick at all. :techman:

Agreed, he was one of the few reasons I sat all the way through ENT (which did get better, I thought). He was a really great character, portrayed by a really brilliant actor.

Ro.

Forbes has great fire, and showed it well on BSG as Admiral Cain, in the Razor story.

Put her in any scene on the bridge. Fantastic.

Arex, of course. Since he has three arms he could navigate with two hands and still have a spare hand to hold an extra cup of coffee for the Captain.

I think if Janeway was picking she would want someone who is brilliant, capable, and would never challenge her authority. So no McCoy 's or Ro's, I think. I think she would choose someone like Data. Wesley would also be a possibility since she plays mama bear to several of her crew already. Hoshi might be a good fit, too, due to her linguistic skills.

If I were picking, as a viewer: Kira or Ro would create great drama representing the Maquis. Quark would end up selling the ship to the B'omar or something equally crazy every week. Garek would either be killed by the Maquis day one, or he would become a deadlier version of Seska. Pulaski would probably try to have Janeway commited. Morn would sit on the bridge silently for seven seasons and then find a way to get the ship back home, offscreen during a commercial break in Endgame.

Ultimately, I think I'd go with Guinan. She has history with the Borg and Q. She's from the Delta Quadrant. She's very wise; just think of her giving advice to each of the main characters. She's been married 23 times so she could give advice to T & B. She would be fantastic interacting with Seven. She could simultaneously pop the Doc's ego while giving him advice about humanity. On top of all that she could serve enough booze to the crew that they could tolerate Neelix.

Voyager with Garak:

Janeway: Prepare to destroy the caretaker array.
Paris: Wait, somebody is activating it! Our weapons have been disabled!
(Flash)
Paris: We’re back in the alpha quadrant.
Janeway. Huh. Ok, set course for DS9 and escort the Maquis to the brig.

Three years later: (Voyager is blown up in the battle to retake DS9)

I think Bashir would have had an interesting dynamic with the Doctor.

I could also see data and nog being very useful.

Aaron Eisenberg was involved as Kazon. But he was definitely better as Nog. I think Nog and Seven would be a big trial of patience for B'Elanna.

Kirk (or Picard), who would kick her out of the center seat and show her how to beat the Caretaker and still make it send them home in time for lunch.

^ Actually, it might have been kind of interesting if Voyager starts out with Janeway as a first officer to a very experienced older captain. The captain gets incapacitated in episode one, and Janeway has to make a snap decision concerning the Caretaker device. The first half of season one could be Janeway acting as a bridge between the methods of the old school captain and the radical new Maquis.

The old captain would have to kick the bucket early on in the series, but it would give Janeway some character growth.

Back on topic: what about Shelby from TNG's Best of Both Worlds? She might come in handy if you're stuck deep in Borg territory.

A decent narrative concept, but a terribly disappointing background for the franchise's first female captain/star. As much hate as the character has gotten even as a seasoned, experienced captain, I don't even want to know how she would've been treated if she 'just inherited/didn't earn' the position.
