If you did a fan-edit of ST09

The Abrams film is a lost cause. It'd require a stem-to-stern rewrite. Best to ignore it completely.

The only thing I'd change with TWOK is put back the footage of Kirk's and Spock's discussion at the Academy where they mention the fact that Saavik is half Romulan.

I'm really looking forward to the release of the DVD with all the cut scenes. And I'm REALLY hoping someone with decent editing equipment will somehow edit those scenes back in so we can see it how it was (probably) supposed to be seen. Sounds like most of the scenes that got cut were non-action scenes, but they were probably pretty important to the overall story.

Any fan edit I would do would include the following:
-Rura Penthe, with the Klingons capturing the Narada starting the sequence as a flashback (the Klingons decloaking part will be cut)
-Try to incorporate the "Young Kirk, Johnny and Uncle Frank" deleted scene
-Get rid of much of Giacchino's score and replace it with tracks from other scores
-Insert Nero's "I've been waiting for this my whole life... this day of reckoning" line from the second trailer into the Narada destruction sequence
-Try to fix Pike's line where the Federation is an armada
-Cut Nero's taunting while choking Kirk to what is was in the second trailer
-Trim Nero shouting Spock twice

Those are pretty good improvements. For the part where Nero is choking Kirk, do you mean you'd replace 'Captain Kirk was considered to be a great man...' to what was seen in the trailer 'Captain Kirk was a great man...?' I also noticed this subtle difference and have thought the same thing.

Yeah, the movie version is like "James T. Kirk was considered to be a great man - he went on to command the USS Enterprise and blah blah blah bored now blah blah, but that was another life."

Compared to: "James T. Kirk was a great man, but that was another life."

The movie version sounds like a rehearsed speech, while the trailer version sounds more natural and more like something a lunatic might ad-lib on the spot while strangling ol' Jimmy Boy.

Well, the director's opinion is that the final cut of the movie is "how it was meant to be seen." It's certainly true that the "baby Spock" scene is out of place in the overall arc of the movie, which properly begins with the appearence of Nero and Kirk's birth, and the Nero-in-prison scenes are merely interesting.

That's what I was thinking too, Herkimer Jitty. I can also understand the 'final cut as its meant to be seen' comment made by Dennis, although there are still a few things I could easily change about STXI. Overall I think they did a remarkable job, though. There are many other good suggestions in this thread.
