If you could rewrite Voyager

Fireproof, Do you mean not so much lost but as in inconvenienced? or that and the evidence of batter and hardships?

Voyager could have ended like SGU, with the crew of Voyager forging ahead, not sure if they'll ever see home.
That was actually what I was rooting for -- an "and the saga continues" ending. Looking back to the days when the series was airing, though, I did not know many people who agreed with me!

It seemed pretty cushy. Like- who needs Earth? Family here! The end. Sometimes.
Well, I think that Tom's point by the end was great. But, largely we don't see that desire to go back home save for brief moments. Everyone seems perfectly content to stay on Voyager until whenever.

I really enjoy episodes like "The Good Shepherd" or "Prime Factors" where we see crewmembers who don't want to be there, actively resented Janeway for her choice, and how it ruined their lives, in some way. Just one person who actively wants to get home.

Maybe they could've ended the series like it began, Voyager is faced with a means to get home but taking it could well doom an innocent planet. So they once again resign themselves to taking the long way back to Earth, though the crew are very much home in spirit.

If I could make any changes to Voyager I'd start by replacing Neelix with a Kazon warrior. He'd be young, buff and hot. He'd be Kes's secret boyfriend before she was captured. They gets rid of Neelix who I found really annoying. Neelix and Kes's romance didn't really work for anyone, but this could be a relationship that would catch on with fans. This would open up new stories for Kes which would help keep her in the cast for the duration of the series (Harry can be killed off instead), which provides chances for more stories and development for Kes, I found her and the Ocampa fascinating, but they needed better development and attention from the writers. Having a Kazon in the main cast would give a chance for the race to be better developed.

I am not sure if a Kazon would have been any less annoying than a Talaxian.

It would of course depend on the writing and acting.
I'm picturing him being stoic with a dry sense of humor. Quietly baffled by the strange Federation ways and wrapped around Kes's little finger. In my mind he's played by Keith Hamilton Cobb who played Tyr on Andromeda, who'd be a little younger then, but that's just an idea.

The Kazons that we know are all misogynistic pigs, so I can't really picture one "wrapped around Kes' little finger".

He'd be different that the other Kazons. Just like Spock is different from other Vulcans, Worf is different from other Klingons, etc. Surely we can imagine that there are Kazons capable of being more than the stereotype of their worst traits.
If he were a misogynistic pig I can't see Kes getting seriously involved with him. That's not to say he wouldn't have issues he might need to grow out of.
I'm imagining he could be a thug used to following orders. He was smart enough to realize Kes was smarter than anyone else he'd ever met, so early on he followed her lead. It could be interpreted as good survival technique.

I don't think that I would replace or kill of Neelix. I actually like him, despite his flaws and his silly jealousy when it came to Kes.

And I don't think that I would have a Kazon boyfriend for Kes either.

But the idea of a Kazon on the ship is interesting. What if Culluh had been captured and had to stay on Voyager for the rest of the journey. There would have been some really great debates and interaction between him and Janeway, Chakotay and Tuvok.

I think they had a Kazon on board in "Living Witness"... I wonder how they would have known about how a Kazon even looked like, by then the Kazon were long gone.

I thought that too. Perhaps they got a hold of a padd with data on them?

Agreed. For me, those episodes were perhaps the most "real" of all that were done on Voyager.

This is a really interesting idea.

He could be Kazon that is questioning his people's ways (only in private mind you, no way would he talk about it openly), wanting for something more than just being a thug with a phaser, but with no ways of getting out of that life he is trapped and constrained by it. Maybe drop them being involved before she was caught, but instead have him as her guard when she is, and as they start to talk and get to know one another feelings develop from there, he sticks his neck out to save her one time and sees himself get thoroughly beat down and thrown out of the Sect. A few days later, onboard his shuttle, he comes across a ship from the other side of the galaxy and is hailed by a woman calling herself Captain. He guides the ship to Ocampa V where he faces death for his return, but uses the alien crew he's with to rescue Kes and get her away from his barbarous people.

I wouldn’t have made the Undine shapeshifters and had them make “peace” that easily.
Would have corrected those discrepancies with the Malon as well.
