If you could replace a movie...

...with another ep, novel, or so forth, what would you do? Personally I'd replace TVH with DC's Mirror Universe Saga. I like it a lot better than TVH, personally.

I'd replace Generations with the TNG Novel "Crossover" personally. Just change it to have the Enterprise-D destroyed or something by the Romulans.

Generations for Federation

Keep First Contact, but if that had to change, I'd go with Vendetta

Insurrection for Q-Squared

Don't know what I'd switch Nemesis for, but something a lot more satisfying of a conclusion then what we got

^ All Good Things?

I wouldn't replace GEN, FC, or INS, just give them a rewrite. But Q-Squared would have been a sight to see.

Rewrite GEN and FC with more polished drafts.

Replace INS with TNG's "Conspiracy."

Replace NEM with TNG's "All Good Things..." aboard the Enterprise-E.

Replace GEN with either Dark Mirror or Crossover, INS with the first and third novels of The Dominion War series, and NEM with Dark Mirror (if it wasn't used to replace GEN) or something else.

Replace Star Trek 5 with Balance of Terror

Federation in for Generations. Just have the Enterprise D get destroyed somehow. You would also have to change it to where it takes place a little later then it takes place in Federation. But it can be done.

I like Insurrection I think that was one of my 5 favorite Star Trek movies so I couldn't replace it.

But maybe replace Nemesis with Shatner's novel of how he gets raised from the dead basically. But you would have to redo it completely to make the characters look right. Take out the Borg working with the Romulans because that wouldn't happen.

My God, you invaded my mind! You must be a Betazoid!

Seriously though, absolutely agreed on GEN and INS's change. Though, Q-Squared would have to be heavily realiant on the show, so maybe do a new plot...

How about bringing in those parasites from TNG's season 1? You know, from "Conspiracy" and all?

The plot could've been, these parasites were the ones to have invited the Borg in "Conspiracy"'s finale. They wanted the Borg to assimilate all worlds, except for the Trill society, which they wanted to subvert and conquer for their own. However, with the Borg's failure in FC, they seek, and find, new alliances in a new species, which forces Ent-E to deal with, while conviniently the Dominion War is happening (thus, explaining the ship's absence then). Also, no Worf as a consequence.

So, ideally, I'd have:

Federation
Shatner's The Return
First Contact (filmed before The Return, whose popularity would have forced it to be adapted, as a FC prequel)
The Parasites proposal, a direct follow-up on FC
Nemesis, though HIGHLY polished, and perhaps Spock-inclusive.

What do you think?

I'm not sure which films I'd switch them for, but I definitely think Vendetta and Q-Squared should have been made into films.

Replace Insurrection with a Dominion War film, the idea that that movie was taking place while all this great dramatic exciting stuff was happening on DS9 is just criminal.

I'd trade Generations for Federation
I would've gone for the Heart of Darkness version of Insurrection instead of the version of Insurrection we got.

I wouldn't so much replace the films as to heavily re-write them. GEN, INS and NEM could have been better films if they'd had better scripts. I don't have any issues with the basic concepts of the films, just the way they were executed.

GEN was meant to be a transitional film, with a passing of the torch from Kirk to Picard. That's totally fine and I think it's a good way to go - I wouldn't want to change that. But they could have done something different. The problems with GEN stem from the fact that they rushed it. Moore and Braga should have had more time to write the film - they were trying to juggle their writing duties for the series with the film. There was also another problem - Paramount handed them a laundry list of all the things they wanted. They didn't have the freedom to write an original story free from boundaries. Ultimately, they ended up with something that was mediocre and didn't make a whole lot of sense. Leonard Nimoy was even approached to direct GEN, but he wanted creative control and Paramount/Rick Berman said "no" (WTF?!) so he was out. David Carson was not a bad director, but he'd never directed a feature film and I think the movie suffered a little because of it.

The problems with INS seemed to come from Patrick Stewart. Michael Piller had written a very dark story. Then Patrick Stewart, who was given a producer's credit for the film, stepped in and demanded changes. He thought FC was dark enough and wanted to change the mood this time around. He wanted something light and fluffy, so the entire script had to get re-worked. There's no way of knowing how the film would have turned out with the original story in place, but I'm willing to bet it would have been much better than the silly, cheesy, watered-down version we ended up with (complete with boob jokes and Klingon pimples).

NEM...hmm... well, okay, perhaps this is one film it might be best to toss out completely. Using the Romulans? Great. Having one last adventure for the Enterprise crew before getting split up? Fine. Everything else? Uhh...umm... yeah... B-4, Shinzon, Remans that look like Nosferau? Those all need to go.

I don't get the deal about Insurrection. I think it's one of the 3 or 4 best Star Trek movies ever made.

I'd love to see Q-in-Law as a movie, myself... Q versus Lwaxana with the Q powers! That is hilarious! And great for this set of lines...
Riker: She's really beating the stuffing out of him (Q). What do you think we should do?
Worf: Sell tickets.

I should see if I can make a scan of this group shot in the MUS, just so everyone can see the MU versions of the TWOK uniforms. They actually did a pretty nice job, considering it's not an easy version to do. Also, Mirror Saavik is hot. :D
