^ Not being facetious at all. I love Captain Proton, and would give Kevin's right arm to write something in that vein.

JD said:We did get one CP book already, Captain Proton: Defender of the Earth. Anyone read it? Either way, I would love to see more Capt. Proton stories.
EDIT: Turns out there was one in The Amazing Stories too.

I would not have changed Ezri's personality in the DS9 relaunch...
Have her transfer to command.
Have her learn how to command.
Give her her own starship--and a beauty, she is, the Aventine--
But don't change what we, her fans since the show, have always loved about Ezri Dax--her warmth, her kind winsomeness, and her honest respect for those close to her--especially Dr. Julian Bashir.
Ezri's development was handled in a convincing way, I think. In essence, she found the way to become a different person by finally accessing and accommodating the memories of previous Dax hosts. That she would change, even in fundamental ways, after that seems obvious to me.
The breakup with Bashir can be explained without resort to any of that, however. She chose a new path -- command -- that would take her away from him. If she wanted to commit herself to Bashir, it's likely she would not have chosen command. Many, many relationships do not survive career demands and choices, especially in a military environment. Why should Ezri and Bashir be immune to those pressures?

yeah, Kev don't need a right arm at all, does he?!

Isn't it a little early to be asking for that, when we don't even know what The Rough Beasts of Empire is about? To answer the original post -- clearly I would have asked someone to write a book set between Soul Key and the Typhon Pact addressing the Ascendants and the various other hinted at issues in the DS9 relaunch.

Oh...I understand why it happened. I'm just not convinced it had to happen that way. I mean--If Picard and Crusher can do it, and Riker and Troi....
And...as for the pressures...no, I'm not saying have them immune. Just...if only Ezri had not taken him for granted so many times....![]()
I'm not buying that at all and never have. Jadzia was just never that much into Bashir and I don't think she ever would have chosen him as a romantic partner. And she did have 3 full years during which she knew full well about his crush on her, and didn't seem interested to pursue it. That line really didn't make sense.I think the attraction to Bashir was too much of a hold-over from Jadzia (who would have chosen Bashir if Worf hadn't come around).
This. This answer probably misses the point of your post, but my first instinct was to say that I would un-lay-off Marco Palmieri.
Seconded.
I agree that Marco Palmieri should get his old job back.
I'm with these guys. I think I might have also set up the current TNGR cast as soon as the series started. What Thrawn and Christopher said. Marco was behind a lot of my favourite Trek books and series.
And this.I would have ensured a bit more consistency amongst the three TNG 2007 releases (Resistance, Q & A, Before Dishonor). I probably also would have done at least one less Borg story, perhaps two...
Ezri told Bashir as much.I'm not buying that at all and never have.I think the attraction to Bashir was too much of a hold-over from Jadzia (who would have chosen Bashir if Worf hadn't come around).
I'd undo Janeway's admiralty. She didn't deserve the promotion (yet? I'd go with at all, and nor would she ever, but YMMV).

Repeat this a few hundred times.Of course this is all conjecture on my behalf

Just because they haven't been resolved yet at that point doesn't mean they can't still be resolved after the gap, or during the jump. First off, most of what have been seeing in terms of the main issues has still been the set up, so I could easily see things continuing to develop for the next five years. Even if major things do happen, there is no reason we have to see every single moment of them. Look at shows like Lost, or BSG, they both jumped ahead years, but still managed to continue the through flashbacks, and expostion. I can easily see that working for the DS9R.Of course this is all conjecture on my behalf, and I hope that it all works out excellently. But at this point I feel a bit apprehensive that we get a five-year gap right when big developments not-related to Typhon are still unresolved.
While I don't doubt that much of Europe will be homogenized even within my lifetime...
I know this might be better suited in its own thread somewhere, but what do you mean by 'homogenised'?
