If you could change one thing about your body...

Experts say one has to have a calorie deficit of 3,500 to lose one pound of fat. So that's 500 fewer calories to eat a day or 500 more calories to burn per day for a whole week just to lose a pound. It's doable.

I do a lot of pessimistic guesstimation for things I don't have figures on, especially Indian food. And I do a lot of rounding down for what the machine tells me I've burned when I exercise, as well. It's not an exact science, but it helps to keep myself accountable so I can't tell myself "well I just ran for thirty minutes so now I can have that slice of cake" or things like that.

I can tell if I'm doing it right or not based on whether or not I'm losing weight! The only times I've put in major effort and still had real difficulty in losing or maintaining my weight have generally correlated to the times my TSH levels were abnormally high.

accelerated healing factor, Wolverine style. fuck the claws and adamantium, just the healing factor.

seriously? permanent removal of all hair on my legs, arms, chest, back, face, neck, feet, hands...

Exercising shouldn't be about burning calories, it should be about increasing the metabolism which would then increase the burning of calories.

It's also about building muscle mass, which, although it weighs more, it ultimatley will burn more calories at rest than one with less muscle mass.

why am i thinking wookie?

all things being equal I would want the body i had at 20 again only this time take care of it

I want back the eyesight I had in my teens, twenties and early thirties. I used to be able to read the tiny print easily and I could always read the freeway signs well before anyone else could, and that started going south around the time I hit 35. I don't really mind wearing glasses to read and my distance vision isn't all that bad, but I'm constantly reminded of how much ground I've lost, vision-wise. Maybe I could trade in all the allergies I've acquired for restored eyeballs?

As an alternative to bifocals, there are glasses with an adjustable slide on the bridge for seeing far away or reading up close:

The downside is that they're kind of ugly and really expensive for now ($895 US).
I saw Doug Drexler praising those the other day on his blog. To ugly and really expensive, add too small. If I'm going to have to look through something in order to see clearly, I don't want portholes or peepholes constricting my field of view - I want the frames to get the heck out of the way and let me have a big field of vision.

Going back to the issue of food intake, I see that it's very easy to lose sight and be oblivious of what you're eating. For example, I just had a Marie Callender's Fettucini Alfredo with chicken and broccoli. One meal = 640 calories. Not bad, right? But wait! Total fat = 40 mg, or 62% of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA), 80% of which was saturated fat! For someone who's diabetic, I also have to watch the sodium content--1,000+ mg on this one, which is half of RDA %. Now is that all I'm going to eat for today? Of course, not. There's still dinner.

It's a really good habit to read the labels on prepackaged foods.

I have to agree with M'Sharak on this. They look ugly (and not in a chic way), probably because the lens have to be round for the technology to work.

I'm sort of surprised we haven't yet got round to developing piezoelectric autofocus lenses but I guess advancements in laser eye surgery took away some of the financial incentive for developing that kind of hi-tech solution and in favour of these lower-tech ones.

When I was really dieting and switching over to a calorie-controlled diet, I loved pre-packaged foods because they took the "guesstimation" I mentioned upthread away from the process. Just look on the back of the packet, instant calorie count. Simples... the food was mediocre, but the weight loss continued! :)

On another prepackaged-food-related note, I heard recently that the USA is about to get the better quality ready-meals common in the UK. Not to say they're gourmet food (they ain't!), but they're miles and miles better than you currently commonly get in States. I heard they're being piloted in New York to start with, being sold from the deli counter, of all places!

This. It really bugs me because I used to be able to read highway signs 1/3 of a mile or so away. Now I have to be about on top of the damned things.

I would love to change my nose. The honker i have now is so fucking huge and wide! I'd change my nose if i could!

I can't even see down the hall in my school! Nevermind street signs (which is why I don't drive).

I seriously can't just pick one thing to change. There are just so many!

- change my nose. Cosmetic surgery could take care of this.
- laser hair removal. I've got some hair on the back of my neck that I'd be happy to get rid of.
- I've actually got a little bit of extra/loose skin around my abdomen. Not much, but it's there and it makes me feel like I've got more fat there than I actually do.
- Thicker hair on my head. I inherited my mom's thin, flat, lifeless hair.
- Darker skin. I also inherited my mom's fair, pale skin. I can't tan. I only burn, burn, burn.
