I re-watched the episode last night and as it is, I think the episode is 100% perfect, but I couldn't help but wonder how things would have turned out if O'Brien's replicant didn't successfully escape from DS9.
There was one point where he was almost captured in Odo's office, but he'd already made plans to beam out. It would have made for a very boring episode if they had, but ignoring that for a minute, what would have happened to him? Would he have been just been locked up?
As a replicant, I take it he was basically a complete biological clone, not an android or anything like that? The doctor performed a medical on him and said he was identical to O'Brien in every way.
He believed he was O'Brien - he had his memories, his thoughts, his feelings. If the DS9 crew had never known about this replicant, would he have actually been able to assassinate the Paradas who were arriving for the peace talks? I was wondering maybe if he was a little too like O'Brien and wouldn't be able to do through with it...a flaw in perfection, if you want to call it that.
What do you think?
