If Kirk can be so easily recast..

After looking at some photos of the San Diego ComicCon, I just had a wild idea about a suggestion for casting the new Kirk. How about Jensen Ackles? I know he's currently tied up in a tv series. He may not be a dead ringer for Shatner's looks but he does have the good looks associated with Kirk and Mr. Ackles has the acting chops it would take to bring some multilayered interpretation to bring Jim Kirk to life. Alec. Dean. Kirk. I think they all have something in common characterwise. :vulcan:

oh i'm sure i said before Kirk couldn't be recast and everyone told me how simple it could be done and how it's been done before with all this other stuff

I just dont understand how people are so optimistic instead of admitting it's going to be very tricky, difficult, if not impossible.

The point was made that Kirk can be recast, the precedents being set with Bond, Holmes, MacBeth, et al. No one said that finding the right person for the role would be easy. No One.

The fact that you're sure doesn't make it true.

nice straw man...care to back it up. I never said it...I dont remember anyone else ever saying it. People have said that audiences have shown a willingness to accept recasting, but that doesn't mean anyone said that the people finding the actors had it easy.

For the record I think finding a Kirk and a Spock is hard...as does Abrams. They did a good job (so far as we know) on Spock...I am glad they aren't rushing their Kirk. I do think I said that I thought the Spock role would be harder, but maybe I had those reversed.

but assuming they do their hard work well...then yes it will be very easy for audiences to accept the actor.

I'm both. Mindful of how tricky it's going to be, and optimistic about the venture in general. What's the point about being so negative about something we have no say over, and which we know next to nothing about at this point. Besides the comments from Nimoy abt the production seem encouraging. Bottom line, we're getting a new Trek movie involving an era and characters that are still compelling. I'm willing to give it a shot, and if it sucks, I will be one of the people here saying it sucks.

I'm not just willing to give it a shot, I'm EXCITED! (Hence the fact that my traffic in this board has increased since the news picked up.) TOS is my favorite era, and I am absolutely stoked to see the Enterprise on the silver screen (unaltered, preferably), as well as maybe some other types of TOS-era ships. In fact, believe it or not, trekkie that I am, this will be my first Trek movie in the theater! Frankly, I'm on the edge of my seat, especially with the recent developments.

and if it sucks, I will be one of the people here saying it sucks.

I gotta be honest; I'm easy to please. I liked TFF and the Wild Wild West movie and a fair number of other things that other people wipe their feet on. Unless the movie has absolutely no plot, and terrible acting, and violation of established Trek "fact" (it would take a lot to really get me, though), and a bunch of other problems, I'll probably find something to like about it. I loved Spider-Man 3 and X-Men 3 and Fantastic 4, all movies that most people found mediocre. The fact is, when I go into a theater prepared to love a movie, I usually do, even if it ain't Citizen Kane. :)

Something tells me the task is not "impossible". I really don't think Paramount and Abrams are going to say, "Well, we couldn't find an actor to play Kirk. Shut it down, boys!"

I'd say they are being careful with their choice, which is being smart, and they are choosing the right time to release this news, probably at the Trek convention a few weeks from now, which is smarter. Spock at Comic Con and (possibly) Kirk at ST Con are smart PR moves.

He makes a good point. ;)

"I may be wrong, but I disagree with some of your other opinions too!"

So there.

Well I said ENT sucked till S4, but I happen to agree with Dennis on this point, so there. :p

And I was right about Quinto, which means that I'm right about everything from now on.

Temis has "Heroes" on the brain.

Let's just cast HRG as Kirk and hope Temis will see the movie enough times for it to make a profit. :p

Are you TRYING to encourage Snakes On A Plane joke posts? You're a sick, sick, man.

Temis is getting miiiiiiighty sick of waiting for S2 of Heroes to start.  :p

And if they want me as a repeat customer, cast the guy who plays Mohinder as Kirk. Heroes fans will know why. ;)
