I was pretending to think that "Lieutenant Pips" was a person who Harry was being offered.

Considering that I didn't capitalize lieutenant pips, I'd say interpreting your reply as a joke didn't land at all and went right though the earth like Wile E. Coyote.

Speaking of dogs, my cat is getting more aggressive about this wanting treats business. She just came up to my face and put a paw on my mustache, which she's never done before. I'd better cave, if I know what's good for me.
